I'm a Personal Trainer - What do you guys do to stay fit?

Options
Hi everyone!

Seeing as this is the fitness corner of the forum, I'm interested to know what do you guys do to stay fit and healthy?

I'm a personal trainer and fitness blogger, so am always interested in hearing about what people do to stay fit and healthy!

I'll start. My training consists of the following...
  • Olympic Weightlifting
  • General Strength Training
  • Road Cycling
  • HIIT
  • Yoga (a little)
  • 5 a side football (occassionally)

My main training is the Olympic Weight Lifting and the HIIT, but in the summer I'm out on the bike a lot and quite like a weekly HIIT session.

I'm in the gym around 5 times per week, 45-60 minutes per session.

How about you guys?

After a 3 year break I am back at the gym. 4 times per week about 80 mins.

Age 52 male, overweight but on its way down!

I start with a couple of weight machines, arms and legs.

Cycling 20 mins, currently hitting 11.5 kms and burning 250 cals.

Cross trainer next, 20 mins. manage 250 / 260 cals on that too.

Treadmill walking uphill 15 Deg at 6.6 kmh for 22 mins to burn 300 cals.

I feel so much better now I'm exercising again. Wife and daughters keep fit and used to go to weight watchers, now we have a family weigh in every Wed evening.

I watch quite a few personal trainers at the gym, absolute torture what they get people doing! Simple stuff but looks really tough.

    I''m mid twenties and Female.
The only excersize I do is climbing in an indoor gym (mainly bouldering) 3 times a week between 1 hour and 2 hours at a time.
Started approx 1 year ago at 58kgs and unable to do a chin-up. I'm now 51kgs and can do 4 consecutive wide-grip pull ups.

My diet isn't brilliant, i tend to 'reward' myself with food unfortunately!

A weekly run of between 4 and 7 miles, a yoga class and a body step class is what I do most weeks. I like to add body pump or insanity classes in summer when I feel more motivated.

Gym 3 times a week, weights, mix it up.
    Week 1 - light, 20 reps
    Week 2 - high, 5 reps
    Week 3 - pyramids

I want to attend more, do some classes as my gym does it.

Also I want/need to het up in the morning and do some of those 30 day challenges

I'm now buying a dairy to keep track of the weights, so I know what weight to start so it's not too light/heavy from last one and see the increase.

    Hi

I am 45, used to be seriously into my running but it has wrecked my knees so after getting some professional advice I now know that the key thing for me is to mix it up doing different types of exercise.

A typical week for me would be one kettlercise class, one long cycle ride if the weather permits, and three 45 minute gym sessions. Gym sessions will always include some weights and either the cross trainer, bike or rowing machine. I run on the treadmill once a week as a treat!

I also do 10 minutes pilates every morning and plenty of stretching after the gym work.

Seems like we have an active bunch in here then!

I had my first gym session yesterday after a few days off over the bank holiday - it was an OK session, but I've certainly lifted better.

It's OK though, after a few sessions back I know everything will feel normal again.

Really need to spend some time on my back and hip mobility though - too much driving over the last few days has left me feeling a bit stiff.

  • At the moment, I'm running 4 or 5 times a week and swimming once a week. Normally I weight lift 3 times a week, run 2 or 3 times a week and do Brazilian Jiu Jutsu once or twice a week, with the occasional snowboarding session. At the moment my weight lifting stuff is in storage because I recently moved house and need to get a shed gym built in the new place. I hate not being able to lift weights! Once I have the shed, I will get back to lifting and add some cycling to my routine too.

Sounds like you're doing really well Kunoichi73!

Do you compete in any sport or just exercise for you health?

I mainly exercise for health reasons and because I just love doing sport. I did a 12 hr team relay race a few years back and really enjoyed it but missed the next couple of events because of an ankle injury. I did a 5km run last year too. Once I get my gym set up again I want to build up my lifting and maybe (shoulders willing) compete in local power lifting events. One of my work colleagues is trying to persuade me to do a triathlon, but that will have to wait until I get my bike out of storage. At some point I may think about competing in a no gi grappling competition. I'm not particularly competitive, except with myself. I enjoy hitting PRs, particularly with my weight lifting.
