Washing Machine Extended Warranty

Hi All,

We've just had a letter from Hotpoint offering an extended warranty on our washing machine. What are peoples views on these? Are they worth it or should we just wing it and see what happens in the future??

Any views appreciated.

i think all extended warranties are a complete waste of money.
how much is it over say 5 yrs?
then work out how much it would you cost you to fix a problem?
next work out how much a new machine is these days?
(about 200 quid?)

My opinion is for the consumer they aren't worth the paper they are written on but for the warranty provider they are a license to print money - which is why they'll always try and flog you an extended warranty! The cost of the extended warranty is usually somewhere around £80 per year for a washing machine. So to be worthwhile your machine needs to go wrong at least once per year and cost at least the cost of the warranty to repair. If it doesn't go wrong then it's just money down the drain.

Look up the Sale of Goods act-you dont really need extended warranties!
