The house is therefore either completely detached on the other side, or involves the garage of the next household along the road.0 -

thanks for your thoughts - really appreciated! Enjoy the rest of the weekend (hopefully it's not raining where you are - unlike here!)0

When we had our cavity walls filled the appointment letter advised removing anything on window sills/walls that could fall due to the vibration from the drilling..although our installers told me they put this just to cover themselves and it isn't that great a prob! Still I think that it would be a very good idea to carefully remove the mirror yourself out of harms way.. as it's so big it's highly likely they will want to drill a hole where it is! You don't need to clear the garage out totally just give them some room to be able to drill holes into the party wall. They shouldnt be in your garage for any more than an hour at the very most (more like 20 minutes as they did the whole of our 2-bed semi-detached bungalow in a couple of hours!).
From talking to the surveyor of the insulation company we had, problems with cavity wall insulation are extremely rare. So long as they have the CIGA guarantee you shouldn't need to worry. I'd also ask what sort of insulation it is. I spent quite some time researching what was the best sort and concluded Rockwool insulation was the best to have as it's least prone to slumping in the cavity or being breached by water plus harmless to the environment - although any of the types currently used should be fine.

Cavity insulation still looks like maintenance work to me.0

Thanks everyone. I haven't heard from the neighbour as yet. Good point about checking out what specific insulation is being used (or proposed to be used) though.
Cavity Wall Insulation isn't maintenance, but as long as the CIGA guarantee covers any damage to my property too as a result of any problems, I think I am OK with them doing the work.0
