Without knowing your location it's hard to tell if £300 is good or not.
But based on the info provided, I'd say that premium for a 5 bed house is probably right, if not low.
Assuming a rebuild of 300k, that means you pay 0.1% which isn't unreasonable.0 -
Location is Essex near Suffolk.
£300 over a year sounds high -any companies recommended will be appreciated.
Many thanks.0 -
Sounds high on what basis? Are you an underwriter or work in Pricing?
It's a 5 bedroom house!!
When you put your information into one of the comparison websites, what's the price of the top 5 quotes?
If you list some of the insurers quoting you will get personal opinions from contributors on their thoughts on them and perhaps some to avoid.0 -
Also, parts of Essex (like Canvey) are prone to flood. So £300 would be cheap if it's in a flood risk area.0

Just an extra comment...
You mention 'home insurance' and 'new house warranty' as though they may be related in some way - they're not related at all.
The warranty provides cover against defects (i.e. 'mistakes' made by the builder).
A home insurance policy will exclude anything related to building defects, bad workmanship, bad materials etc - whether you have a warranty or not.
Home Insurance typically covers risks like: fire, lightning strike, storm damage, falling trees, explosion, earthquake, vandalism and vehicle collisions with the building (none of which would be covered by a warranty)0 -

What do you consider a reasonable home insurance company? Is it just one that is cheap, or one that has good customer service in the event of a claim? I'm with UIA and I've had the misfortune to make two claims over the last 5 years. They aren't the cheapest but the claim process has been quick and painless. Many years ago I had house insurance with Nationwide, and a claim under that policy took over six months to resolve.Hi
