Legal expenses cover

What is 'legal expenses cover' and is it worth paying extra for it in an insurance policy if it's not included FOC? I heard from someone who worked in the industry that the insurance companies just refer you to a legal team if you should ever need it.

It is for costs that are not covered by insurance.
Yes you are refeerred but the legal costs are covered.

If I were you I would google for "free legal cover" and get a free plicy.
If it's free then it's a no brainer.

Often you have to agree for an insurance company to give you quotes for this and you might have to sign up to a newletter (well they aren't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts) but it's a small price to pay for something that would cost about £20.
