Hive Active Heating - Installed for £150.00 by British Gas

So, to have Hive installed by British Gas it is £250, they are now offering a £9 a month offer where you pay £9 for 24 months totalling £216, you could do this to get it cheaper but you can get it for even cheaper...

There is a flaw in the T&C's where if you have it installed then cancel 15 days AFTER its been installed (not before) you pay £150 to get out of the contract. You do not cancel before the 14 days otherwise you lose the remote control element of Hive (not being able to control on phone). Once you pay the £150 fee to exit the 24 month contract that's it, all done. You have Hive for £150 supplied, installed and setup.

All you have to do is call 0800 691 1406, organise a install date then 15 days after installation, call British Gas and cancel the contract

Note: To take advantage of this you have to be an existing British Gas customer (energy, HomeCare or a 5 year warranty)

Hi - welcome to the forum. Given that BG has an online rep on this forum, I suspect that your post will result in a rapid review of the terms and conditions relating to this offer.

Also it's not really a deal ... but that's HUKD for you nowadays.

If you read the blurb, the £150 is an early exit fee. It is charged to cover the cost to BG of the parts & installation etc.

The monthly fee (which as you say is only available to existing BG customers, non-BG customers pay slightly more) is the monthly subscription.
It's a 24 month minimum term (else you pay an early exit fee, lower early exit fee after 12 months), but the contract is never ending until you cancel it.

If you cancel the monthly subscription, Hive live ends.

Just spoke to British gas regarding the £9 a month option. It is not for 2 years and then it is paid off it is ongoing. Another example of companies preying on the poor. If you can pay £200 outright you are fine but if you can't and have hive installed, over 5 years will cost over £500. Ridiculous.
