O/Style Daily Wednesday 12 April 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, but damp underfoot, we've had rain during the night and sky is very grey and gloomy, so probably more to come (forecast is for a wet day).

DH up and gone to work, DS1 now getting ready for work, and DS2 still in his pit.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions, cheese and potato pie, and beans/veg for the menfolk. I had cheese and potato pie, smoked mackerel and veg. I did remember to get the chicken pieces out to defrost, so tonight we'll be having roast chicken portions, mash, cauli in a cheese sauce, carrots, broc and gravy.

Yesterday work was busy not helped by the management now moving the goalposts yet again and wanting staff to do different to what they should be, since 1 April the staffing levels as we pointed out were not going to work, and they clearly aren't but they don't work day to day with it so they couldn't care less, we're left in front of the customers. Rant over ...... Today I'm doing a different job, and will be in an office on my own for all but an hour of the day, a lot of my colleagues hate this side of the work, but it doesn't bother me as I've worked in this environment before but much bigger and busier for commercial business. Today is my last full working day, although I'm working Sat morning, but that isn't so bad, and we're closed Monday then I'm just working Tues and Weds and then we're away on hols on Friday morning, and I can't wait, we're both more than ready for a break. DH's is knackered too.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

Floss I have a frozen shoulder, when I say it won't cooperate I mean the range of motion is restricted. Should've seen me in the shower after the first couple of weeks, I couldn't lift my right arm to wash my armpit so I lifted it a bit with my left hand, gripped the rail, washed (quickly, because it hurt), then used my left hand to guide it back down again, lol. I had to put the toothpaste tube between my knees to unscrew the cap with my left hand, my right wouldn't unscrew it or hold the tube :D

I've finally caught a mouse, feeling guilty though because it's very cute and looks terrified. I have a humane trap, it had a bit of chocolate in it but that didn't work so I added peanut butter. Still nothing, so I put some dog food in it and this morning there was a mouse. It's eaten the lot, it had quite a feast :D Mr tru is going to take it with him when he goes to work and let it go a couple of miles away. Wonder how many times he's going to have to do that, lol.

Mum, dad and Little Mate are popping round this morning. I'll have to move the fridge magnets down so LM can reach them, he takes them off the fridge, shares them out and we all have to join in with making up a story. I'm not good at this so I say something ridiculous while he laughs at me and changes my part :D Lunch and a film with miss tru later. That's most of the day gone so there will be no OSing whatsoever :D

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's going to be another lovely sunny day here this morning. I slept like a log after yesterdays celebrations. I had such a lovely day with my family and friends. Thank you all for your birthday wishes, it was great to read them and they put a big smile on my face. It's not over yet for me either as my friend is coming to take me out to lunch today as well but we will not be going far as the grand children are coming to stay for a couple of days and I need to get back home quickly in case of an emergency.

I will be making pork in a creamy honey and mustard sauce for tea served with rice for everyone else and cauliflower rice for me. I actually quite like it, especially with a bit of butter stirred into it. I am a bit stuck for meals for the rest of the week though. We have 2 freezers packed full of food but I am feeling a bit uninspired. I think I will go through some of my recipe books and see what I could make.

The washing machine is on it's first load as I need some clothes to wear out today and the dishwasher is ready to be unloaded once the girls are up. DD14 and DD15 have the orthodontist this afternoon. DD15's brace came off this week and her teeth look amazing. She is having a fixed retainer put on today to make sure they stay that way. Poor old DD14 still has a mouth full of metal but it will all be worth it when they come off next year.

It's very peaceful here with the girls asleep so I am going to make myself some breakfast and a cuppa before I put the hoover round and wake them up :).

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Good Morning everyone and thanks for starting us off this beautiful sunny morning nmlc.
Well I am off out for the day of shopping, coffee drinking and mooching around Oxford Street with my eldest DD with a slap up lunch thrown in as well. Its a belated birthday present from February and we like to have a day together just by ourselves.I have a good few vouchers from Christmas and my birthday that I have saved to spend on a treat .We shall hit selfridges,JL and probably a few book shops as well :):):)No cooking to do today either as Dd is treating us both to a slap up lunch So I am up and showered and dress already :).
The sun is up and shining so fingers crossed it will stay that way .one of my friends at quiz said 'aren't you bothered about going into London at the moment'
But I said 'No I was born and bred in London, and nothing will frighten me away from my home town' :):):) You can't let evil win and by just carrying on as usual is the best way to live I think

DD is treating us to a slap up lunch and there will be lots of coffee drinking and nattering going on :):):)

See you all later no doubt with sore feet and a thinner purse :) I do have a good few vouchers from Christmas to spend which helps :):):)

    Cheers chums JackieO xx

    Morning all,

Not quite so bright here today but no rain atm. Off to work for me today but I am at the other site which will be quiet, good job really as we have a new client who has a lot of additional needs and needs a lot of attention.

Mums for dinner tonight egg and chips which is one of my favourites, roast lamb was delish last night and plenty left for other meals, Evie had her share too.

Wm is doing its thing so that will need putting on the line tonight, its only OH work clothes so it wont hurt them to sit in the wm all day.

Having decided to dump Roger I am now on the look out for a Mrs Roger to come and clean for me once a week, we are finding that we spend most of Saturday morning cleaning and the afternoon shopping so that's most of the day gone, we all work full time so it would be a huge help to us, my mum is going to speak to her cleaner today.

Right better get on have good days all xx

RR we have a Mrs Roger, she only comes in once a fortnight but it has made a big difference to our weekends & spare time.

Tru I must have missed that, now I understand your dead arm issues!

Work today, am full of a horrid cold with a wheezy cough but only one day left until my days off. Not sure what's for tea, I was going out but cancelled as I don't want to share my germs as my friend's mum is in a care home. DH is having his planned prawn stir fry for lunch.

  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC for starting. And thank you all for your good wishes yesterday when I was under a cloud with everything dragging me down.

Today is a new day thank goodness as yesterday ended up even more stressful than anticipated! You couldn't make it up! When it was time to leave home for the hospital we went out, shut the door behind us and tried to lock it. Mr TA lifted the handle and tried to turn the key but it wouldn't turn. Tried again and again and then the handle broke! By this time we didn't know if the door was locked or not so we just set off and left it. No option really as we didn't want to be late for the scan and if we couldn't get back in no-one else could!!

Rang DS from the hospital to see if he could find a locksmith to meet us when we got back home. Bless him he took charge, came over and got everything sorted. Blooming heck emergency locksmiths don't come cheap. He had to force entry to fit a new handle bar and the lock needed changing too - £180!!!!!!

Anyway back to the brain scan. All went to plan and now the worry of waiting for the result on the 26th. I know what I am suspecting.

NAN I'm sorry you had such a nightmare visit for your DH's Oncology injection. We've never faced that problem thankfully. Sometimes it's been left in the fridge and we have to wait for the gel warming up but they always have it. Is he on the same one as Mr TA - Somatuline (Lanreotide). He's been on that for over three years now.

No fixed plans for today but may do the weekly shop as I can imagine it being like Christmas tomorrow with people going overboard for Easter and barging around with overflowing trolleys. It'll just be the normal shop for us. First Iceland as I like some of their fish and then Aldi. May just pop in Sainsbob's too for some potatoes - their TTD Vivaldi spuds are my one indulgence. I won't economise on potatoes!

So many on here with problems and worries just now so ((HUGS)) to you all. JUDI specially, Think CSARINA could do with an extra one too. Take care all and hope you have a better day forecast than we have - gloom all day. xx

    Good morning all.

Yesterday afternoon the rain started, light drizzle at first and then hard and prolonged downpouring. This morning it's bright but cold.

The meeting last night wasn't too bad and moved along well. It felt strange driving home in the dark again and being in day clothes at 9.30pm.

My garden looks much smarter with the grass cut so I'm glad I pushed the mower over it yesterday. Birds are pecking away at it too.

I'm doing a rush dash down to DMs today, just an overnight visit. Yet again her car wouldn't start and the nearby mechanic helped put. She just doesn't drive it enough or for long. I'm taking her to various places but now think she should take her car instead. I'm a little fearful of being a passenger with her, perhaps I shouldn't be!

On my way down I'll collect my wine order, I called the shop to say not to bother coming up with it.

RR - I got a cleaner who started last week, she's coming once a fortnight and I feel no guilt or pain. I enjoy my home so much more now that I don't 'resent' cleaning it. I know some people take pleasure from keeping everything clean but that's not me. I hope you find someone.

Hugs to those who are under the weather, feeling down or not well.

    Happy Wednesday to everyone.
  • Good morning all,

Legs are sore from lots of exercise yesterday but that's a good sign so it doesn't bother me. Although I do have football tonight which could be interesting.

I used the MSE deal to get 2 Thornton Easter eggs for my friends kids and they both arrived smashed. So they'll send another 2. I may have had some of the smashed chocolate.

Anyway, must dash. Happy hump day all.

    Morning All

Rain overnight but fairly bright this morning. I'll decide what to do with the washing when it's finished.

Got a course of anti-b's from the docs yesterday to try to clear this chest infection so feel a bit better this morning.

Visiting friends this afternoon for a catch up, I'll walk up if the weather is ok. Also need to visit the allotment but it's a bit cold to put the new little plants in yet.

Glad you had a good day dumpling. What a day TA, hope today is better for you. Have a good day JackieO, don't spend too much!

Happy Wednesday all, take care. XX

    Morning everyone,

Oh TA you couldn't make it up could you, hope you have a much better day today :)
Enjoy your day out JackieO x

We have a meeting with the solicitors this morning, we have finally got round to sorting our wills out and they just need to be signed now. Going through the last few months with DM and then my OH's Dad has made us realise how important it is to leave everything sorted, especially as we are not married.
Other than that not a lot planned, my neck is much better this morning so might give the windows a clean inside.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x
