Mellicks Solicitors & Smart Parking Ltd

Hi,
My father has 2 solicitors letters from Mellicks Solicitors & Notaries informing him he has 7 days to pay two fines for £110 each on behalf of Smart Parking Limited.
Previous letters came from Debt Recovery Plus which he ignored, these originally quoted £160 each.
These relate to private parking in Inverness, Scotland where he allegedly overstayed by a few mins, the other didn't have a ticket (although on the same letter it says he overstayed!).
The new letters seem more official and look authentic. A google search shows lots of talk of Gladstones but nothing on 'Mellicks incorporating Naftalin Duncan & Co'
Any thoughts if this is legit? He's getting concerned after the court case in the news last week where a woman ended up with a £20k bill...
Thanks

Mellicks incorporating Naftalin Duncan & Co are a Glasgow firm and they should know better about parking companies in scotland
You did right to ignore DRP
For Smart to take you to court, they need to know who the driver is.
The woman who lost in court and owes £24,500 basically self admitted she was the driver and because there were over 200 tickets involved she was probably watched by the PPC.
This has nothing to do with your dad.
Smart parking are generally easy to beat and I wonder if this firm of solicitors fully understand the implications getting involved with Smart. REMEMBER THEY NEED TO KNOW WHO THE DRIVER IS
The letters have been sent to your dad as KEEPER and NOT Driver
Wait until others on here say what to do with the letters0 -
I agree, if Smart try any Scotland claims then they need to show who was driving, so don't give them that.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
CLICK at the top or bottom of any page where it says:

thanks both - I've asked my dad to continue the silence whilst i search some more on these latest letters!0

This firm does debt collecting so this could be just another version of DRP.
Whatever happens, they must be instructed by Smart to take this further.
It is possible that after the case about £24,500, Smart are doing this as try on to scare people
We have been expecting this to happen.
It could be that Mellicks end up with egg on their face simply because it would be very foolish to accept Smart's evidence.
Just like in England where BWLegal and Gladstones are known by the courts to be completely incompetent
Make no contact with them, these debt collectors are trained goons who try to get information
NO DRIVER KNOWN HERE0 -
Keep ignoring - do not contact!
One of the main reasons that case in Dundee went ahead is because the woman concerned engaged with them and identified herself as the driver.
If she'd kept stumm, there was very little the PPC could do against her.0 -
WHO do the letters say to pay? That's usually a big clue as to what form the letters take.0

If the letter says to pay the solicitor and that all communication now goes through them rather than Smart Parking?
What is the question please? You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -

What is the question please?
It was in relation to the quote above mine stating WHO does the solicitor letter say to pay.
My letter from Mellicks says to pay them directly rather than Smart and that all correspondence should be done through them from now on. Does this have any bearing on whether court action is likely/they will continue badgering me for the £220?0 -
@der_hammer - you should probably start your own thread if what you are asking is not covered in the Newbies thread as otherwise posters might get confused as to whom they are helping on this thread.
If you have your letter, scan it, redact the identifiable information, load it up to an image hosting website and post a broken link in your new thread (e.g. hxxp : //)
We can then correct the link and look at the letter. If you start a new thread please post as much information about your problem as possible without revealing details such as who was driving, your real name etc. (e.g. personal identifiable data).0
