Moving to Warwickshire

Hi all
I just have been offered a new job near Warwick/Leamington.
I completely do not know the area or anyone who already live there I am so, so worried for my better half and our 8 years old daughter. Maybe I am just a bit overprotective but I feel that my little one will suffer the most because of the school, friends and social life she will leave behind.
Please, can someone advise on nice areas in Warwick, Leamington, Stratford or elsewhere that we could move to? And some good and welcoming primary schools?
Thanks very much!

Leamington is lovely too! As is Stratford. Great part of the country.
Not sure what you're worried about. Children adapt very quickly and take things in their stride. They make friends much more quickly than we do and have far less to worry about. They 'do as we do', not 'do as we say', so you'll transfer the worry to her if you let it show.
She'll be fine.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Gorgeous part of the country! Have a look at Kenilworth. Stratford has some amazing villages on the outskirts too.0

You will be fine with Royal Leamington Spa or Warwick. Both very nice areas of the country.0

I live just outside Shipston-on-Stour which is 10 miles south of Stratford and is as nice as Stratford without all the tourists and the traffic.
Great schools, great people, not a great deal to do, but Stratford, Banbury, Warwick/Leamington are all nice and close.
Just 15 minute drive to Leamington
I wouldn't live anywhere else.0 -
Lots of great schools, throughout the county. If school is the most important aspect to you, why not contact Warwickshire County Council to find out which schools have places. Then go have a look at them, and base your search from there.
I was going to suggest Rugby as you get more house for your money - but see you are currently in Bournemouth, so are likely to find Leamington and Stratford more affordable anyway!0 -
Thanks for all your replies lovely people! You made me feel better about the move already. Yes, schools are very important to me as these will be first point of contact of my little one with the new community. She is now in very welcoming and supporting school, I just hope to find something similar wherever we will move. I got in touch with WCC, they suggested quite a few schools in the area, I am researching them now, but I think if you live there and know the local area, your knowledge will be far superior to what I will manage to find online.
Could you also suggest any areas better to avoid because of crime, asbo etc? I guess its everywhere; I checked crime rate maps but these to me don't really reflect what is really going on in a given area. This is mainly for finding a house, just want to make sure that won't end up in some grim area.
Thanks again!0 -
Not really any bad areas. North Warwickshire is an ex mining area, so more deprived, but even there by national standards is not bad. But as you will be working near Warwick/Leamington presume you will be looking around the south of the county.
Do you want town or village? How far are you willing to commute? Do you need to be near public transport links - or will you as your daughter gets older?
I would start by looking at Rightmove for what you can get in your budget in different areas and take it from there.0 -
Thanks LittleMax.
I will be working at Jaguar, can commute up to 20-30 minutes in any direction, but since would prefer town, I am guessing Warwick/Leamington are the best options.
Yes, public transport will be quite important to me. If for any reason I had to commute to Birmingham or down to London, then trainstation in a reasonable proximity could help. And when little one will be not so little anymore then public transport will be even more important to help her to get to school.
I will try rightmove. Its a good idea to compare areas on rightmove. will definitely give it a go!0
