Anyone bought from Pakon Furniture on ebay?

There is a new trader called Pakon Furniture (Pakonfurniture5*) on ebay who is selling discounted John Lewis furniture. Feedback so far is excellent but with only 40ish ratings and only registered for a few months I'm a little wary. They have a Facebook page (again newish) but no website.
Are there any Money Saving experts out there who are familiar / have bought from them successfully?

thanks

  • Doing the math; 40 ratings on eBay. One seller of 200,000 Business Sellers in the UK. Chances of finding extra info on Money Saving Expert? :/

I have never brought from them but I would be careful. You can buy furniture returns to John Lewis fairly cheap from some sources. They also seemed to be based near once such source I know of. However they are returns so mostly likely are damaged or missing bits. Even if the seller has checked the items, it is easy to miss something vital that is missing from flat packed furniture.

I am not saying they are bad but you just need to be wary that there may be an issue. From their feedback they seem to sort things out though.

Well, he should be registered as a business. If he is willing to flout the fundamental rules will he be there if/when you have an issue?

As above they appear to have obtained what they claim are John Lewis items to sell for a profit yet cannot be bothered to register as a business.

Look at their £349 bed. Have you seen the cracks in the legs and damage to the headboard? Quality seems suspect so if they were John Lewis items they maybe returns or rejected stock.

The £259.99 bed is a catalogue image, so maybe thats in a worse state?

£250 Wardrobe with a large dent which is splitting and further damage which they mentioned the small dent but not the massive one?

So i was probably right about being returns or rejected goods.

Certainly not the quality you would expect when buying instore.

Thanks for the replies - all excellent food for thought. After further investigation I've found out that the items advertised are declared as John Lewis returns and pictures show any damage. Also the seller is near enough for me to go and collect and pay in cash (after inspection), so I'm begining to feel the risk is on the low side.
  • I don't know their company, but if you can visit their shop and try the stuff out in person you'll be best placed to avoid any possible scams and check for damage, tags etc. John Lewis sewn-in tags can usually be found underneath the left hand side seat cushion on sofas. The tags you find inside the cushion cover will usually be from the manufacturer of either the cushions (generally Platt&Hill) or the sofa (like Parker Knoll).
Well informed on the subjects of sofas and wood furniture, and well opinionated on everything else :rotfl:
