in Credit cards
Hi, iv just been contacted by barclays bank to advise my credit card has been used only with 'travel pack' for £560. Iv googled and this is an online flight agency so im guessing it was for fraudulant flights.
Barclays have cancelled my card and flagged the transaction. Can i find out who these flights were booked for? Do i ask barclays or call travel pack and ask them? Will they tell me the names and details or is this down to the bank? Im worried it wont be investigated as its such a small amount.
Thank you
Beth

No. They won't tell you as it's not your job to pursue the culprit.
They will do that if they choose to.0 -
Nobody will tell you anything other than you've been told. You are correct in assuming it won't be investigated. The card has been cancelled so no other transactions can fraudulently tale place.0

Surley its so easy for them to investigate, iv checked on travel pack and you cannot change a name on a flight so they must have used their real / passport names so the bank could find out so easily!0

But it's not your concern. The fraud was committed against them - leave them to decide what action they want to take.0

I suppose im just baffled how someone can be so risky to book something with their own names and you read all the time how banks dont investigate fraud i just find it so unfair!0

It would be unfair if you had actually lost out but you haven't. Fraudulent transactions take place every day and it would be impossible to investigate every single one. In the grand scale of things £560 is not a large sum of money for a bank.0

OP I'm sympathetic, but the answers are correct. As the transaction was unauthorised, you do not have to pay. The fraud is against the CC. Probably it was a cardholder not present transaction, so the CC won't pay out to the travel agent. It may well be the tickets will be cancelled. If not, the loss was with the travel agent.
It is frustrating when a crime that would appear easy to solve goes uninvestigated. But that's the way things are in the UK. Police have their priorities. For companies it is often easier/more cost effective to take the odd hit rather than tighten security and perhaps turn away good business.
In the case of financial services, the government did feel that this kind of approach wasn't sufficient. Through the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (section 2(2)(d)), they imposed a statutory objective on the (then) FSA to "reduce financial crime". This didn't cover CCs which were regulated by the OFT at the time. Nevertheless, this (and other legislation) has led to institutions taking more care that their products don't become the instruments of fraud - hence more ID checks, money laundering precautions etc. In time, CCs might follow suit. But for the time being, the attitude seems to be that provided consumers are protected, then all is fine. Of course that's missing the point that we all pay if CC fraud occurs, albeit indirectly rather than directly.0 -

Why would you assume that it was booked in their own names? If the fraud was committed by sophisticated fraudsters the ID may well be false also. You don't say what your reading source is for the claim that fraud is not investigated but I would not believe everything I read - particularly if it is in a newspaper.
Understandably, you have a need for answers as it was your card that was compromised. However, you bank will take whatever action is necessary and no investigation team is going to share information with you. Making their findings public will just allow the criminal fraternity to stay one step ahead.0
