£599 for an extended warranty - is it worth it?

I am looking at purchasing a 2015 VW Polo through a second hand car dealership (Bristol Street Motors) who have quoted me £599 for a 'Motor Assured 36 Month Warranty'. I will be asking them for the full T&Cs to check what it covers but what should I be looking for? Also the cover includes AA Roadside Assistance, Home Start and Recovery for the duration (worth £327) from their website quote).

Is it worth shelling out the extra for the warranty? I gather VWs are pretty reliable cars anyway so I hope it is unlikely I will be saving money on any future repairs - the saving would only be if I have any catastrophic dramas. Also, I can get breakdown cover included in some insurance policies so is it worth it?

Thanks for any advice! :)

We recently sold our 13 year old VW Passat, I'm not sure we ever spent £600 on repairs in 150,000 miles lol :)

It still has 12 months manufacturers warranty. Use it for a year to get a feel for it's reliability, if you then have worries, either get rid or consider buying a warranty at that point for peace of mind.

"I gather VWs are pretty reliable cars".

That depends on where you get your info from.

TSi engines failing at low miles due to poor components resulting in frequent redesign, diesels with inherent problems, electric parking brakes needing expensive repairs, EGR valves failing at low miles and giving the owner a big bill, DSG gearboxes which can be a lottery (been there and lost).

Check the manufacturer warranty is still valid - you need to see the service record before parting with money. No record, no purchase.

If all is OK run it until the manufacturers warranty runs out and over that time save £500-1,000 in a repair fund.
