Possessions going into storage; what to keep out?

Our chain is potentially crumbling so to keep us in a strong position we are ploughing on with our house sale and moving in with family temporarily. The ultimate hope is that the chain will be resurrected and we will move into this house we have chosen as planned.
We are having our possessions packed on Wednesday ( which was already arranged) but instead of them being delivered to the new house the next day, they will be going into storage for goodness knows how long.
We have 24 hours to make a list of what to keep out of storage and in our possession i.e. passports birth certificates etc... things that we may need over the coming days / weeks / months.
Any suggestions welcome !

if you put it in storage and find you need it at a later stage, just go back and get it out0

It's not that easy - all your possessions are piled inside a small container, and unlikely you know exactly which box every item is in. Last resort.
In answer to the OP, the mistake we made when doing this was thinking it was going to be for three weeks and that turning into four months. So we'd kept out clothes for the summer and then it turned into autumn - I would definitely keep at least some clothes for all seasons. Plus holiday gear if you're planning on going away any time soon.0 -
We also had exactly the same, thought it was for a month but will be 6. Good point about summer / winter clothes. We are in furnished rented but had the bed (really comfortable ViSpring) and 2 good chairs moved into the rented House thank goodness.0

Pack as if for a holiday in a suitcase, taking the most convenient / all purpose clothes you can. Don't worry too much about consumables as you can always buy more and use anything in storage later, but you don't want to be missing long life stuff (like chargers, clothes etc) and have to buy or search for it in containers. Off the top of my head, I can think of:
- Work clothes
- Casual clothes (all purpose / all weather, don't start keeping summer and winter wardrobes)
- Jackets, shoes, minimal accessories
- Toiletries
- Laptops, phone chargers, etc
- TV, Skybox, remote etc if needed
- Kitchen equipment depending where you're staying
- Bedding depending where you're staying
- Cleaning equipment (check if hoovers etc needed)
- Passports, Payslips, Birth certs, bank docs (anything for a mortgage application / apply for rental / to change addresses at banks etc if the time comes)

My mother was in this position* last year - the intent was a week in temporary accommodation. The reality was three months. She was moving from Derbyshire to Herefordshire, and her possessions were in storage in Lincoln.
At some point, you have to be pragmatic, and say "OK, I need that - I'll buy it again."
* - no, not the condoms.0
