What to do with £50K

GIven that cash ISAs are now not much better than stuffing money under the bed, I have transferred my cash ISA into my S&S ISA. While I would like to use the money sooner, rather than later, I am happy to take a bit of risk in the hope of bettering the cash ISA 1% interest rate, but I'd like a more conservative strategy than my normal.

My ISA portfolio already contains Vanguard Lifestrategy 60, amongst others. I was thinking of VL40, or maybe VL20, for the new funds, but wonder if I am missing a trick? Should I split between funds? Sectors?

I have £50,000 to invest - what would you do?

I'd put it in VLS100. But you're not me so you might want to do differently.

Since you want to use the money sooner rather than later, then how much of it can you afford to lose?

While I'd obviously rather not lose any of it, I'd be able to swallow losses of about 10%. I'd been thinking of going for a bond based fund, to lower risk?

Regardless of which fund(s) I chose, I wonder if I should phase the investment, even if just over a few weeks? But, then again, any time I have done that in the past, I've ended up being worse off!

I know, just bite the bullet and do it! ;-)

Why would you need short term access to 50k? Keep what you need safe and invest the remainder for the long term, or with more bondage if med term

The OP will need quite a lot of bondage with such a limited tolerance for loss for this tranche of money. Fortunately, it is already held in a S&M ISA, so no need to be submissive to HMRC.
