Recommendations for replacement of HP SR2125UK

Can anyone recommend a suitable desktop to replace a HP SR2125UK? The budget is £400 maximum.

The current HP SR2125UK is slow and states that there is a program running in the background although I do no know what it is or how to find out. I am sure there is unnecessary programs on it which could be removed if I knew how.

The desktop is for a 70th birthday present and will be used for word processing, surfing the web and storing photos.

How do you copy all the information / documents which are on the current computer to the new one?

Finally, how do you then delete the information on the current desktop and where can you dispose of it?

No, wouldn't know how to. Need simple step by step details for anything computer related.

As far as I remember they are using Windows Vista but I am not sure.

Once finished take a usb disk which is bigger than the drive on the PC and use this to backup, but you have to burn the software in the link to a CD first, then boot off the CD http://redobackup.org/

People on this site rate the free Macrium Reflect very high, but my friend could not get on with it and was unable to restore -it was her not the software. Myself I use really odd software, and they have always been problematic restores, but trust them enough to know may data is there to be restored

What you need is to replace a hard disk with a SSD (Solid State Drive) This computer support SATA 2 interface. So get a standard SATA SSD (Most common SSD)

You may want to install free open-source OS, LinuxMint Mate 18 (support until 4.2021) You can use LibreOffice, Firefox, Chrome, VLC player etc. Who said Linux is geek stuff ? (No way! anymore! LinuxMint is very beginner friendly, Please see the below)

I actually give a present of 8 years old desktop computer with LinuxMint with SSD to 80 years old couples. They have been amazed and showed off this PC to grandchildren (lol). A grandchild replied, "This computer is so fast and cool, how to get this?"

You may need to learn bits, but it is a lot of fun and your old computer will be completely reborn with an amazing new life.

You should be manage to get a monitor for £100 - 150, if you need one.

Get a 2.5" external HDD and transfer


Existing HDD:
Remove it from computer and smash it. Your existing CPU is slow, it will take ages to run dban.

I wasn't online since and shouldn't be at the moment either but hopefully I will get to read all the responses in the coming days.
