Starting Problem?

My Freelander 2000 1.8 Petrol (W Reg) won't start :(

When I turn the key the starter motor fails to turn? Is there anyway I could get it to start, so I can drive it to a garage?

Many Thanks

Flat battery I guess? Jump start it then. And/Or you can push start it if it's a manual.

Electrics all working as normal, but I tried chargering it with a battery booster anyway, but no luck in starting....:(

Also, a push start will be very dangerous!, as its parked on a very busy Main Road/Dual Carriageway...
  • I can't give you a definitive answer - other than a bump or tow start.
Sometimes it can be as simple as the lead coming off the starter motor..or a seized bendix...or worn bushes.....

Can I suggest that you join and post the question here:

A local Landy fan may be able to assist......or you may find out if its a common or easily rectified issue.

    Good Luck with it
I am NOT a Woman! - its Overland Landy (as in A Landrover that travels Overland)

Better to be approximately right than precisely wrong.

If it is the starter motor you can try tapping it with a hammer while someone is turning it over to start it.
If i could i would, but i cannot so i wont, but maybe one day i will.
  • When you turn the key is there a meaty click from under the bonnet?

If so, the starter itself is probably failing / stuck. Stick it in 4th and let the handbrake off. Rock the car back and forth to 'nudge' the engine over a bit, then try starting again. If no-go, then pushing or a gentle tow start is your best bet. (bump / tow starts are not usually advised for cars with cat converters, but if the only fault is starter motor and the engne normally starts easily, it is unlikely to cause a problem).

If there's not a solid click (but there might be a little one from the dash/underbonnet), then check Fuse #1 in the underbonnet fusebox, and Fuse #5 in the interior fusebox.

The ECU can disable cranking if it can't read the transponder in the keyfob, so try your spare keys too, just in case.
  • I went back to where the car was parked (outside a friends house since Friday afternoon) and it started first time with no problem!

I don’t understand, what could’ve caused this???

could be just a loose wire,or it may have been jammed and freed itself
