it's much much much better to go.
pretty much, i think paper appeals are successful if you have a vast knowlege of the process.
(i.e. need to have definitive medical evidence, very specific to the descriptors (all i's dotted, all t's crossed))
that's out of the means of most people i think, generally.
....also the dwp may have sent 100+ pages of conflicting nonsense and the judge may not be inclined to want to read all of it etc.

I relapsed with alcohol but that's not all. I have gastritis was prescribed anti vomiting pills two days before appeal which i didn't pick up and had really bad abdominal pain because i hadn't eaten in 4 days.
I got a relative (my mother) to ring them up on day of appointment to postpone it but the guy on the phone says it's up to the judge to decide.
Should be receiving a letter from them soon but I think they will have gone ahead with paper appeal.0
