Hi, my boy is the same, happy in the waiting room but freaks when in examination room. I found that if I left the examination room, he was far happier and allows the vets to do what's needed.
I think he thought he had to protect me and got v defensive, so by me leaving he calmed down, might be worth a try??
Hope you do find a solution, because it's really not fun, you definitely have my sympathies

please do not give your dog anything without consulting your vet as it may interfere with the vaccinations.

Would your dog be happier of the vet came out to your car to do it?

I taught my dog 'back up' which is sit in between my legs with your back to me.

The vet was most appreciative of how easy that made giving the kennel cough vaccine up his nose while I held his head.

I only gave it once as my dog was going into kennels for the first time and I thought it was necessary.
  • Can anyone recommend a doggy chill pill that I can give to our 6 yr old beagle before he gives to the vet for his annual vaccinations?

He's OK in the waiting room but as soon as he goes into the examination room he's on his guard - the usual offering of treats that would normal be wolfed down are ignored and he sits in the farthest corner away from the vet. Giving him kennel cough usually involved three members of staff last year!

He won't let the vet do the normal examinations and tbh he won't let us look at his teeth generally so it's not a case of being vet wary.

Any tips would be much appreciated

I've used "Chill Drops" for my Seth who gets very anxious during firewoks - these drops work a treat and are 100% natural from Herbal Pet Supplies:

If you go on her FB page you will see the Chill drop testimonials - it's really good stuff xx
