This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning all,

Up early for me at the weekend as I am off to work :( This is the very worst bit about my job, I absolutely hate working weekends ! It I only one day though so not too bad.

Yesterday OH and I tackled the garden, I mowed while he strimmed and then we cleared a huge amount of brambles which had come from next door and along behind the shed and under our plum tree, we then cut the plum tree back a bit which now looks better but I think it needs cutting a bit more, so we will do that next weekend. The strimmer broke while we were using it, so I have bought a new one which has all sorts of attachments on it and can be used for cutting the hedge and pruning trees, OH has promised to be the new Roger as long as he has the right equipment ;) so we need to get a new lawn mower next as ours I on its last legs!

Dinner tonight is some kind of pasta dish which DD will cook, house is fairly tidy but OH and dd can nip over it and do what's necessary.

Right better get on have good days all and enjoy the good weather xx

  • Morning folks and thanks REDRUBY. Another glorious day in store but they say the high temps will plummet tomorrow. Oh shame 'cos I could get used to this warm sunshine.

All is peaceful at the minute as the DGDs are still in bed. This weekend has been hard work and, as much as we love the girls, I shall be glad when DD comes to collect them this afternoon. The house is like a bomb site too with their belongings scattered all over the place.

They have requested Shepherd's Pie for lunch so left the mince defrosting overnight and will start on that shortly. We'll have with carrots, peas, Yorks puds and loads of gravy. The fridge was full when they arrived Friday and now it's almost empty!!

GERS what a lovely day you and your mum had. Not such a lovely day for you CSARINA! I'm just glad your DH was ok. It could so easily have been a different story.

Oh well I can hear fairy footsteps above me so here we go again. Another manic day ahead.

Have a good day all and (HUGS) to those in need/want. Take care and enjoy the sunshine whilst it lasts!! xx

    Morning everyone.

After our sun-soaked day yesterday we have rain forecast for today. I'm heading home later this morning so will probably go the longer route.

While I've been away there's been a couple of garden labourers clearing out the autumn / winter debris from the flower beds and, hopefully taking away a load of rubbish lying around - three now very rusty and green folding chairs included. They're not gardeners by any means but very useful. I don't imagine the grass will have been cut as it's all very soggy still.

Thanks TA and Camelot - my DM was thrilled with her personal shopper experience, she's never had such a session before and just loved being looked after so well. She knew which make of trousers she wanted and then was on a roll. :j

A quiet day ahead I think. I hope the same for everybody - happy Sunday.

Quite chilly this morning, I've had the heating on for half an hour. Ironing done, will put the WM on when I've had a shower.

I had a better nights sleep, must have been the activity of yesterday - and the fresh air. I definitely feel better this morning, hope it continues.

Not much planned today, some pottering about in the garden and a trip to the SM to get DDs BF a bottle of something for his birthday.

Sounds like your OH will get some more 'useful' pressies RR!

Have a good Sunday, take care. XX

    Morning all and happy Sunday

DH is still slumbering although I have taken him up a cup of tea. When he gets up I want to strip the bed and wash the bedding as the promised sunshine has arrived.

Later we'll be going over to DDs and I'll take some biscuits that I made yesterday. Also did a simple vanilla sponge traybake which, in the end, I topped with butter cream and then a small segment of strawberry, as I had some in the fridge. Took them to the dance last night and they were all eaten - luckily I'd saved us four pieces at home before we went!

Will be watching the rugby later and then an early dinner as I'm trying a new music session tonight and it's over an hour's drive to get there.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all.

A fine start to the day...hubby is waiting for a recovery truck. His new car won't start and needs to go to the dealership. The neighbours must love this...the amount of comments he's had from the neighbours who speak to him about having ' another new car' are numerous and he's had his first scratch on it already... Not popular is my hubby. Water off a ducks back though. It embarrasses me more than him.Still, he's got his other car to get to work so disruption should be minimal.

Youngest was driving the wheels off his new car yesterday. Hubby warned him about driving like a loon. Don't suppose it will make much difference. All I ask is that he doesn't kill himself. Still, his black box will be fitted soon. That will slow him down.

Prodigal came yesterday afternoon and got yelled at. Why does hubby clear off and leave me to deal with him? He's picked up his mail and not ripped it up this time. He's lost his bank card (again). The bank must be sick of issuing him with bank cards and he's broke his phone. Jeez!

Side gate is finished and looks nice and is secure. Well done hubby! When he's not messing with his cars, tinkering in his shed or asleep. He's handy in the house.

Hounds are going to get sheared off today. Too much hair in this lovely weather and they are moulting.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

Good Morning everyone and a beautiful day already here in north Kent.Got all of my washing done yesterday and now will iron most of it while listening to the Archers on the wireless :).
Eldest DD came yesterday afternoon and we had a really nice chilling afternoon just pottering around and drinking lots of coffee and nattering. She brought me a very pretty top she had spotted in M7S and I will wear it on Wednesday when we have our yearly trip up to the west end for the day We usually go every spring and have a good mooch around the shops and have lunch in an nice italian place she knows. Then more shopping and perhaps even a matinee at times depending on the weather.I definitely want to go to JL in Oxford Street and have a mosey around Selfridges as well. Its part of my birthday treat and we have a real girlie day and we both switch off our phones and forget everything for the day :). I'm really looking forward to it as she has such a busy job and I enjoy a full day with no distractions of grandchildren to run here and there My youngest DD has the day off as well but she will be looking after the boys and dogs at home.:)
Almost Easter at last and I bought the boys eggs yesterday I only spend about a quid on each of them as they get lots of eggs from all the family only 5 eggs to buy this year as DGS Danny is in the U.S. and his sister has decided at almost 24 she is far too old for such frivolities :):):) So only bought for four DGS and DGS Ben's G/F Candice who is coming to stay over the holiday ,she is a dear little lass and I couldn't leave her out :)Aldi's were doing Mar bar easter eggs for 99p yesterday so £4.95 took care of the egg situation :):):)

Hope you all will be able to get out in the sunshine today it really is lovely to see it shining ,no doubt by next weekend we will have the rain back so make the most of it

    Take care all

    Morning everyone

redruby - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Clear blue sky and bright sunshine, forecast is for sunshine all day. Doesn't look so good from tomorrow though. Will be pegging out another line of washing to line dry in a while.

DH and myself are up and enjoying first cuppas of the day, boys still in their pits.

Yesterday afternoon we had to take some equipment to a friend, and decided we'd call in on some other friends en route home with some paperwork they needed, fortunately he was in so we spent a very pleasant hour or so chatting with him sat in the garden and he gave me a lovely glass of red wine to enjoy in the sunshine. Dinner was pizza and chips - as we were a bit late and DH didn't fancy the "sort of" mixed grill I had menu planned, so today's lunch will be steak, liver in gravy and sausage, mash, and veg - I'm quite pleased as it won't be so much work as a full roast with it being so warm. The planned roast chicken will be another day's meal and has stayed in the freezer.

I had a nice win on the Grand National yesterday, I wasn't even going to bother this year, but DH said that I should as it's the only race that I have a flutter, pleased I did as I had a bet on 4 horses and got 3 out of 4 - can't believe I managed that! Will be going to collect my winnings this morning.

Remember the sun cream everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

After yesterdays fiasco I now need to find a repairer. I googled one. I need a ride out to see exactly where it is as its off the busy Nottingham Road. Do not want to have to do an emergency stop with a lawn mower in the back of the car, thats going to be a squeeze on its own unless I can manage to fold the handles down.

Another lovely sunny morning. Bed stripped and in the washer, will be going out shortly so by the time we get back it should be ready to go out. Will change the bed again before we go away, as we are not setting off until after lunch I can get it washed and hopefully dried before we go.

No gardening today, I am wiped out.

Supper tonight, chicken with all the trimmings........ should be enough for supper tomorrow with salad and may be the sandwich filling I make as well. I need to put a loaf on, just have one slice and a crust left.

    Morning all,
    A
Really early start for metoday, am tracking DS2 who is running in the Rotterdam marathon, its his first marathon and I find it exciting to be able to "see" his progress, he is more than 12k in now........only 30k to go!

Yesterday was a beautiful day here, its overcast this morning but the sun is making an effort to come through. Planning a lazy nkind of day, might make an apple sponge later, as there is a carton of custard in the fridge I would like to use up.....no idea who bought it.

TA....no idea how you manage to deal with grandchildren on such a regular basis.....I love mine to bits but find a couple of hours at a time exhausting......could have something to do with the nearest to me are 20 months x2 and 7 months....the older girls are now climbing out of their cots........I suggested nailing their feet to the floor, but for some reason DD4 wasnt too keen on the idea!!

Had a nice surprise at 11.30 last night....a Skype from DD3 and DGD7 in Perth......DGD wasnt too impressed that Mam wouldnt hand over the phone, she loves her swimming and will be starting lessons when she is 6 months, so another mermaid in the making, DGD2 is already beating everyone so its good that she will have competition.

Need to get back to Rotterdam to see how my baby boy (he is only 42!)is doing. Have a lovely day those of you who still have the sun.

Csarina perhaps your OH should be paying for repairs & replacements from his own pocket rather than the joint finances...or pay for a "Roger" like RedRuby? That might make him a little more mindful ;)
