OP you should probably replace your coolant filler cap, as this releases excess pressure/air from the system and maintains the correct working coolant pressure. If the cap valve is stuck open, there is no pressure, the coolant boils and things soon go all "Alfa Romeo" all over your engine bay. If the cap fails to open, pressure builds up and blows off hoses.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Could also be a partially blocked radiator that caused it. Restricted flow causes a buildup of pressure.
I've had it a couple of times, can be diagnosed by feeling the bottom of the radiator when up to temperature. Just watch out for the cooling fan.0 -
Everyones missed a few vital points here firstly does the heater get hot? If it does you wont have a airlock, If the temp gauge reads low the thermostat could be naffed or even stuck shut again leading to excessive pressure as said a possible blocked radiator or even a blown head gasket or worse and on the antifreeze front more orange coloured is used nowadays than ever in modern cars. Toyota did their own as normal antifreeze in their engines led to corrosion internally etc. Keep driving it and see what happens if the level drops and no signs of a leak you got a head gasket issue or worse. Another thing your water pump maybe broke and the impellar come back off the rear of the pump and it isnt pumping the water round the engine easiest way to see if thats the issue is to remove the coolant filler cap start the engine get someone to rev it and see if coolant comes out the overflow pipe back into expansion bottle0

These did sound the same symptoms as when my clio had head gasket failure. But in my case the pressure just blew past the expansion cap.0

Thank you everyone.
How can it be checked if the radiator is blocked?
Rolandtheroadie it is a brand new radiator, that has recently been changed, so it probably wont be blocked.
But if the radiator system pipes are blocked, are there solutions in bottles that can be bought to deglog it up? (from halfords say)No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -

If the radiator is brand new, I'd guess the pipe wasn't secured properly. Don't worry about a blockage.0
