I'd like to know if anyone could tell me if my old garage roof is asbestos or not, but I'm not allowed to post pics! Any help?

Depends on the age of the garage, at some point they switched to fibre cement which does look like asbestos and is generally rubbish, crumbles and cracks.

As long as you aren't thinking of disturbing it ... is it an issue?

You can't analyse asbestos from a photo, over the internet.

The analysis is normally done by taking a sample, applying certain chemicals to it and having a trained analyst examine it under a microscope, which is why the analysis is normally done by sending a sample off to a laboratory.

If it's an old corrugated cement roof then it probably will contain fibres which are likely to be asbestos but you won't be able to confirm this from a photo. You'd need to get a proper lab analysis done.

If it is it will probably be Asbesros Cement. Ours was and I took it down, Double bagged it and our local council tip took it .

There's a lab in Essex where you can send off a sample. Google them.

Thanks all. I don't know the first thing about asbestos, only that there is an old thread on here where people confirmed via pictures so I hoped it could be done. I'll Google the lab.

It may be an issue which is why I asked: the garage is disused currently but I am going to be converting inot a chicken coop this year so I need to know whether I can leave the roof in place, as it is leak-free and sturdy, or if I'll need to replace it. I will need to replace the door so if it is asbestos then I expect I will have to replace it but I don't want to if it's not necessary (big job, more expense etc).
