Bt tv

We are moving into a leasehold new build next month and one of our lease conditions is that we can't have a satellite dish so we will be cancelling Sky. The estate also doesn't have virgin media so apparently we will need to go with BT TV. When I put our new postcode in to their website it tells me we can get standard broadband and tv essential. Just wondered if anyone could help me with a couple of things...

1) Do we need an aerial installed in the loft? Wasn't sure if it was done this way or through a lead like virgin media?

2) Can we have 2 boxes? We have an additional tv socket in one of the bedrooms as well as the living room.

3) Does the essential selection allow us upgrade to movies/music channels or is it just the basic freeview channels?

We tried Now TV but apparently it's not possible in our area at the moment.

Are you confusing NowTV with BB against just NowTV?

NowTV should available anywhere with a 3G or higher or a BB connection, and any ISP.

    No you can't.

Why not give it a try, no need to buy the box, you can create an account, download the app to a phone and check out the content, if you like it then think of getting a box.

Plusnet and talk talk also have some sort of TV box that works through the aerial and also an internet connection.
If the BT checker is not offering you the choice of normal BT TV it might mean that you will have poor internet speeds and so unsuitable for proper TV service with extra channels that works using the internet.
So trying to answer your queetions:
    1. Yes you need an aerial to be able to use BT TV. If you dont you can only use the internet TV channels (eg. Movies and sports) but that will depend on your internet speeds. Obviously the type of aerial will depend on your location. On my brothers house he uses an indoor aerial and it works fine. But on my own area i need a tall outdoor aerial to get a decent tv signal.
    2. Yes BT allows you to have two TV boxes but it is again dependent on your internet speed and two aerial sockets with good enough signal strenght.
    3. The essential package is essentially that. Gives you the basics. I dont believe that box gives you recording capabilities or the possibility of channel upgrades.
Have a look at plusnet and talktalk to see if they can offer you anything

    Hi Robbie.
The one thing you haven't stated is your 'up to' internet speed and if you can get fibre as opposed to copper?
  • I don't know if you are aware but you can buy a satellite dish setup for a caravan for about £100. Do you have a garden where you can set one up and secure it with tent pegs, which is what caravanners do? You could trail the lead through the garden and into the house.
