Thanks David - sounds like I should just set up a new e-mail account and forget Yahoo altogether. It's a shame because apart from this I've had no issues with them and have been using that e-mail address for years. Thanks for your advice though. I do have a Gmail e-mail account as well but don't like the format or set up of Gmail I'm afraid so might go with Microsoft Outlook as they're similar to Yahoo.

I became ill with chronic fatigue syndrome 2 years ago so think my working days are over but I consider myself lucky - at 58 I was only 8 years from retiring age anyway whereas there are many youngsters battling it and having their lives ruined in the process. Anyway thank you for your kind words!

That explains it Le_Kirk - I've obviously missed that condition somewhere but because I would have been regularly logging in when I was working or on holiday previously I would have been okay. I think I would be less upset though if I could have actually talked to someone who could have explained the situation - to not be able to contact anyone and only have the chat advisors in India who were using very automated messages a lot of the time was extremely frustrating!

If you have a gmail account but don't like the format etc then get it forwarded from gmail to your chosen email application e.g. Windows Mail or Thunderbird or anything else you prefer.

That sounds interesting - can you point me in the right direction as to how to do that? I've just recently bought a Mac so it would be the MacMail app I presume?

Let's not go there, this was an issue of BT and Yahoo deleting an account, not about hacking.

It seems to me that the very minimum they should have done was to send warning messages, a bit like the way that Microsoft did when they screwed users they promised free 15gb of storage and then reduced it to 5gb. Much as I hate Microsoft for not honouring their agreement (of only because it was such a nightmare to get the data back (albeit that I had other copies), I have to respect that they gave 6 months notice and sent a plethora of warnings.

I have email accounts going back donkeys years where I download via Pop3 but never login online, I would be seriously P'ed off if they deleted them. I would tweet their PR messages on all social media platforms until they gave my data back.

Yes exactly! Surely it would be a simple enough exercise to set up an automated message when a timeframe is reached to warn someone their account is about to be deleted if they don't log in? And save them a lot of time and hassle I would imagine dealing with irate customers!

Oh no David don't say that!:rotfl: It's my first foray into the MAC desktop world and I thought it would make life easier not more stressful!

Anyway I'm delighted to say I have now got my e-mail account reinstated:T Of course they didn't phone when they said they would but luckily I was still able to take the call and the person I spoke to had a very clear accent which made the whole process much easier. I was desperate to say that all this could have been avoided if they had just sent an automated warning e-mail but was terrified she'd take offence and hang up on me!!

Thank you for letting me vent on here and for your great advice. I've managed to get my Googlemail to come through Macmail so that's been a big help but I'm just so glad I don't have to contact everyone and his granny to change my e-mail now:j (although it wasn't much fun wading through over a week's worth of e-mails ......)

I still have 15GB on my accounts. They sent messages to remind you to 'opt in' to keeping 15GB. I 'opted in'.
