Engagement ring stone fallen out

Hi all,
Dropped my engagement ring on the floor and a diamond fell out - I am happy that I managed to find the diamond but does anyone know roughly how much it will cost to get it repaired? I am going to take it to the jewellers but would like to know a guide cost in advance!
Thanks for any help

This has happened to me 3 times over the last few months. Each time a different diamond. Apparently the setting gets loose as time passes but I've had the ring retipped and it still hasn't solved the problem. I was charged £200 first time round to find a suitable diamond reset it and retip the ring. The second time was free as the retipping clearly hadn't worked and it's sitting on my bedside table waiting for me to take it to a different jewellers now to see if I can get it sorted out once and for all.0

The answer is to take it to a proper local jeweller, not one of the high street chains, and ask how much it will cost.
Nothing to stop you trying 2 or 3 different jewellers to compare their costs. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0 -
The cost is going to depend on the metal, the style of setting and the amount of damage done. Take it to a manufacturing jeweller- many independents don't actually make the jewellery.0

Depends, not too much though. I had a claw replaced and diamond reset, for about £25. I also had a ring changed from a three stone setting to a solitaire for £70.
Find a proper jeweller, not a high street jewellery store.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Are you anywhere near Birmingham? If so, I'd suggest going to The Jewellery Quarter and going around several of the jewellers there getting them to quote. You'll have lots of them to choose from and will get a better price than from a high street jeweller. Most high street jewellers just send them to Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter anyway and add the postage and their own mark up onto the price they quote you.
It's great that you've found the diamond, but it wouldn't cost that much to replace the stone anyway. Contrary to popular belief, diamonds aren't all that precious. They are not even particularly rare so they are fairly inexpensive to buy individually. What costs is the fine metalwork needed to repair the setting.
I've had lots of jewellery repairs, resized or adapted at the jewellery quarter over the years. I need to go again soon as I've managed to bend one of my favourite rings completely out of shape! Most work done is pretty inexpensive and more often than not, they will resize rings for free. Your best bet is with one of the smaller shops down the bottom of the hill, or behind the main drag. They are usually family run 2nd or 3rd generation and are really, really lovely.0 -

If you can't get to either, try to find a manufacturing jeweller.
Failing that, a local independant jeweller, not one of the high street chains.0
