Im pretty sure the duotec's don't have preheat but you could check the manufacturers user instructions to be sure.
Assuming it doesn't have preheat your probably going to have to get the dead legs cut back to nearest tee's. It might be worth get the plumber who does it to fit a mini expansion vessel to the cold main will help stop your problem.0 -

My boiler does this - it annoys the hell out of me but so far
a) not enough to pay anyone to come and deal with it,
b) not enough for me to start ripping up floorboards or installing an expansion vessel !
It does worry me that it keeps cycling the boiler fan unnecessarily and will lead to premature failure though - to the point where I turn the bathroom cold tap on and off very gently to try and avoid it when cleaning teeth!
I dont think my boiler fires, it just seems to start some fans running for 30 seconds. I dont think I have a pre heat - I've got the vaillant 937 so it already has a 20l storage cylinder of hot water ready to go. Although I'm always suspicious of whether it makes a difference turned on or off!0 -
I think you're right. I can't find anything about preheat in the info'. Gas man is coming on Thursday so hopefully we'll find out then what the problem is.0
