MOT Expires before Test
Hi All,
I'm after a bit of advice please regarding my MOT. It's due to expire on Monday but the earliest I can get a test is Thursday. I'm not going to be driving between expiration and test and keeping my car on the drive until I take it to the test centre so do I just not use my car or do I have to SORN it for three days (I don't think this is possible?)?
Thanks in advance, L

If its currently taxed and insured, you're doing the right thing - dont drive it or keep it on the road when the MOT expires, then drive it straight to the MOT centre when its due.0 -
Make sure you tell the MOT station your registration number, they usually ask anyway.0

If your MOT has expired, legally you are still allowed to drive the car but only if you are driving it to the test centre. If you were stopped by the police or involved in an accident etc you would probably need the garage to confirm that you were booked in.
So once the MOT expires, don't drive it, except to the garage when you do the MOT.
You don't need to SORN it.0 -

You don't need to SORN it, but you do need to keep it off the road.0 -
At the risk of disagreeing with everyone, if you're sure the car is roadworthy, you could still drive it. It wouldn't be legal, of course.
But ... if you're caught with no MOT, there is a fine but no points.
The bigger fines and points come in if you drive an unroadworthy car.
But no need to SORN - just keep if taxed and insured.0 -
It's worth knowing that you can get your car MOT'd earlier than the expiry date and still keep the same renewal date,

Better to try to get it in early and have time to get repairs done etc.0 -
