Kwikfit told my daughter she needed new discs and pads on her Mazda pickup at a cost of £350 after she braked hard going down a steep hill and noticed a vibration several years ago, when I checked there was nothing wrong with them at all the ABS had cut in causing the vibration, she still had the same pads and discs after another two MOT's and years.0

I have a 2011 Madza6 Sport, I think it was around £400 for pads/discs all round but possibly a bit less as it was done on different occasions with other work.
Last time I went to Kwik-Fit (I had a brake issue and didn't know of anywhere else nearby) they found the fault but also wanted to replace six month old discs/pads and tyres on the car. I pointed out that they had been recently fitted but they told me I was unlucky and the discs had warped and the tyres cracked which was a load of rubbish.

Do you guys know roughly what you'd expect a fair price for this work would be? If its like £200 id swallow the cost just to get back on the road. But I do find it hard to imagine Kwikfit putting £450 on top of the quote - but maybe I'm too honest and expect others to be as well!
The first price i plucked off of ebay for Mazda 6 front discs and pads was £59.12 delivered.

Even 1.5 hours per corner at £30 an hour is only £90 fitting.
I would suspect all thats happened is that a brake bad has sheered off. You might get away with just a new set of pads. Probably £30 plus £30 fitting.
Find a local, decent, recommended mechanic and stay away from those sharks at Kwikfit0 -
In some areas you might even find a mobile mechanic who will replace your brake discs and pads, but you'd have to get the car to a car park, I don't think kwikfit would let you do it in theresChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0

I think your maths may be a bit off.
1.5 hours per corner x 4 corners = 6 hours
£30 per hour x 6 hours = £180.
Or did you mean 1.5 hours per axle?
I meant to replace each of the two front discs. So 1.5 hrs x2 corners = 3 hours.
Its extremely unlikely the car just happens to need all discs and pads replaced. Most likely across one axle at most. Although unless hes getting juddering or there a significant lip on the discs he could probably get away with pads. Its most likely a pad has sheered off the backplate. Disconcerting when it happens but quite minor0 -
Thanks guys, this was really helpful.
I spoke to kwik-fit to get a full price breakdown and the moment I asked that the guy on the other end quickly added "he could do me a favour and knock £100 of the £630 quote". That set alarm bells ringing thats for sure.
I found a garage that was recommended to me by several different friends and was quoted £270 which I agreed to.
Anyone know how's best to make a point about this? I'm writing a complaint but honestly feel like thats *almost* a waste of energy0 -

Pointless trying to 'make a point' about them; people have known and communicated for years that they tend to be overpriced, under skilled, robbing shysters, but there's still no end of gullible drivers who trust the old 'can't get better than a Kwik-Fit fitter' marketing guff.0 -
Don't bother making a complaint to Kwik Fit, it's their business model to overcharge.
Just write a review on Yell.com or similar stating the facts. Don't go overboard.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
you could drive into quick fit with four good tyres and discs and pads with years of life left in them and they would still find somthing wrong
you took the car to a bunch of cowboys and they tried to turn you upside down and empty your pockets0
