One of the "features" of the Tesco back-end banking system is that it operates fully every day of the year.

    But not today it seems!

So I checked with their Twitter feed and they've gone home!
  • Haha!! Either they've been hacked again, or they're so popular the website's crashed again

I am using a Tesco account for savings, looking around on the recommended accounts on the website, it mentions that Tesco current account needs £750 a month feed in and 3 direct debits - does anyone know when this will be applied to existing accounts (or its it already???)

New applications only. Existing customers should be good until at least April 2019.

I've not seen any evidence to support your opinion.

Tesco only guaranteed the 3% not that the T&Cs wouldn't change and that only requires 60 days notice.

Bringing in a direct debit requirement all round would be a way of ridding themselves of lots of 'savers' ' accounts, but hope they don't do that.
  • When Tesco say they want three Direct Debits each month from the account is it that you must have three LIVE DDs each month. For example, my Council Tax only comes out in 10 out of 12 months, so do I have to have another DD to fill in the gap?

    Yes.

Or many councils will allow you to pay your council tax in 12 instalments.

The snappily titled "The Council Tax (Demand Notices) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2012" obliges Councils in England to offer 12 instalments as an option, and to inform bill payers this is the case. However, its an opt-in process for residents and Councils can set a deadline in each tax year by when applications to opt-in have to be made. I assume similar regulations were made for other parts of the UK.

Many Councils set the deadline close to the start of the financial year, so it may be too late already where you live, but it could still be worth asking. Difficulty in affording the monthly payments is more likely to be effective after any deadline - being able to qualify for interest on a current account is unlikely to get your council's sympathy.
