The top does get very hot wouldn't touch it after an hour of the burnt being on, I wondered why the pan doesn't boil.
The pan I used is M&S steel pain flat bottomed seems to be only a few mm thick. it says on the underneath M&S, electric, gas, ceramic, halogen
I fuel I use are logs suppose to be seasoned probably various wood. I also use some broken pallet wood
I had a pan on for about 4 hours yesterday although the water did have a few bubbles in it you could easily stick your finger in and not get burned
I agree its hard to believe but its fact, I thought it would boil with 25-20 mins tops when they burner is very hot0 -
I have a feeling you aren't getting your stove up to a good temp, quick enough, at a rough guess it should be too hot to touch after 5-10 ish mins.
You can buy a thermometer which sits on the flue pipe and shows the optimum temp the stove should be kept at for burning wood and flue gasses. This explains it better http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Investing-in-a-Stove-Thermometer_W0QQugidZ10000000003208602
