2007 VW Golf battery change

Hi guys,

As above. Just bought a mint '07 Match runaround as a spare but it needs a new battery, still on the original

Is there anything I need to know/do first, before disconnecting the old and replacing with the new? I've heard all kinds of horror stories of windows not working, alarms falling over etc. It's pretty much a fully "electric" car...

Thanks.

The quicker you can swap the battery the less likely it will go to reset mode.

However the chances are everything will reset
  • Thanks! I've borrowed a friends mains cigarette lighter "battery saver" and I'm going to use that...

Anyone know of the best (UK relevant) technical forum?

    Thanks.

I've found https://www.briskoda.net/forums/ to be very useful for VW cars since they're mostly the same as Skodas, there's a lot of helpful people on there.

I had a 2007 Octavia (pretty much the same car as the Golf) which I replaced the battery on, when I powered the car back up there were lots of warnings on the dash but they quickly cleared within about 20 seconds of driving. The only issue I had was with the electric windows as the auto down/up wasn't working, all I needed to do for that was to put the window and hold the button down for a few seconds after the window went down and then do the same when putting the window up and that sorted it. No issue with the stereo although I don't know if there's any variants that still need the code entered manually.

Don't forget to write down the radio code first.

Code doesn't need to be re-entered. It's coded into the ECU on the MK5 Golf.
