i think your still missing my point as i have said a few times above, i WAS NOT notified in any form (e-mail, Statment, letter.....) til days after the charges occured! So its not a case of me "sorting my finances out" as i didnt know that the charges were coming! And im afraid my crystal ball is broken at the moment.

There's the basis of your complaint then. Don't bother with the telephone CSA's. Put it in a letter to the complaints address on their website (see contact us). However, bear in mind that you'll also have to tell them that you weren't notified of the direct debit date for your insurance. That's two complaints about different institutions about the same thing though, so they may be suspicious (lightening never strikes twice and all that!). Tell them that you want to claim under the DD guarantee, and the first £25 should also be refunded. Then point out that, because of this, the second £25 charge should also not be made. Make your points clearly, concisely, and politely. If/when you get your deadlock letter, go to the FOS.

Read between the lines of MMD's post. An overdraft would have prevented this - don't you even get a 0% overdraft for the first 12 months when they open your account? Also, having 9p in your current account seems a little low to me (whatever your personal circumstances are).
And im afraid my crystal ball is broken at the moment.
You don't need a crystal ball. You have an online account. The T&C's are online, meaning you should be familiar with them.

Does this always have to be the stock answer on this board when someone deviates from the norm (but still gives advice)?
  • hi all

in an ideal world everyone earns enough to live, save have a pension, holidays etc. in an ideal world a bank will give you an increased overdraft.

meanwhile in this world we dont all have this blissfull high tower to look down on the poor.

im fed up of those with having a go at those that dont claiming to offer advice.

telling someone there too poor for there perfect world in no way helps.

  • I will drink to that mate! I will buy you one with my chump change :D
  • I don't really need to add anything to what YB has said.

It is terribly depressing that anyone who offers advice other than "yes, you are right, the institutions are awful and unfair" is slagged off for it.

    Enough said.

    Anyway, back to being helpful.

Whenever you log onto your A&L accounts on the internet, and view the transaction record for your current account, there is a section at the top of the page which says whether there are any pending charges.

That is how they notify you 14 days in advance of a pending charge.

They don't e-mail you specifically about the pending charge - they don't need to. They e-mail you to tell you that your statement is available for viewing online and at that same point, the online statement will show that there is a pending charge.

I would suggest that you might perhaps have failed to notice this.

It certainly has been there on any occasion I've paid overdraft interest (usually of around 3p ;)) and I very much doubt it would not have been there for you.
