Red light offence

A relative went through on a red light some months ago. Got the letter and completed the details. Had heard nothing for ages then today he got the following

To pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £30.00.
To pay costs of £85.00.
Fined £90.00
total £205
plus 3 points.

I thought it was only a £60 fine.
I think he has paid it.

My question was I thought it was a £60 fine. Is this normal for a red light offence

That looks like it's been to court to me. IIRC the fixed penalty is £100 and 3 points. Often a course is offered if it's a first offence.

I think either a heck of a lot of post has gone missing or you only have half the story.

Yes that's what I was wondering. He said he was wondering when he was going to find out what happens as it had been such a long time. Seems unlucky or unfair that he hasn't had the option for the £100 fine and that it has gone to court.
