Halifax Reward account query

Hi all,
So I switched to the Halifax Reward account at the end of November.
Got my £100 reward for switching and then got my first £5 reward in January (a full month after opening my account as expected).
In February I got a £3 reward. When I visited the branch I was told there was nothing they could do as everyone was notified. Called them up and they said that around the middle to end of November they had sent out letters confirming that the terms of the account were changing.
I have not received this and the terms and conditions that I signed say I would get the £5 a month reward unless I go overdrawn.

I asked for a copy of the new terms and conditions to be sent to me over a month ago, and still haven't received them.
Am I right to say that they have not informed me of any change to my terms and conditions?
Am I in any way able to claim the extra rewards/compensation for all the trouble this is causing me having to call them/visit them/chase them up?
Can I demand that my terms and conditions as I signed them be honoured?

Sorry for the long post but any advice welcome :)

  • Not sure of the legal position but is it worth pursuing for £2 a month?

Their advertising at the time you signed up stated the reward level was going to drop.

In other words, you knew it was coming.

Check your paperwork. Did you apply online?

if you don't already have one you can set up a post office savings account and a dd for £1. The money is then yours to keep.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

No, it was advertised at the time you opened the account that the rate would drop and they will have sent you a letter, if you didn't receive it nor the subsequent T&Cs you asked for maybe you need to talk to Royal Mail rather than Halifax... Most likely it was noted on your statements too, you do read them right?
Am I in any way able to claim the extra rewards/compensation for all the trouble this is causing me having to call them/visit them/chase them up?
No. But you might get a goodwill gesture.
Can I demand that my terms and conditions as I signed them be honoured?
No. Per the T&Cs you agreed to they can vary them at any time.

You can easily find the new T&Cs online (within their Getting Started Guide), not sure why you're insisting on a paper copy.

It was also discussed on here also, all customers were advised of the change of reward payments, and also mentioned as a banner online banking screen and also mentioned on the bottom of statements for two or three months...

I would also say that T&C's are changed with notification and they are always subject to change.

Just like the incentive payment T&C's changed at the end of 2016, If you opened your account online you would have had to agree to the T&C's and if you opened it in branch you would have been told of the impending change of reward payment as it was mentioned on the videos you watch when you open an account.

    No chance OP.

Just forget about it and move on.
  • Thanks for the replies everyone.
Yes I did apply online but (I believe) my original t&cs were for the £5 account as it was before the notice period saying there were dropping.

I still haven't received my new t&cs from them either but nevermind.
No goodwill gesture as they couldn't identify when the letters were sent to "everyone" or confirm this on my account either.

I'll give it a couple of months and see what other accounts are out there!

Remind everyone again what your previous bank was giving you before Halifax gave you £100 and a monthly reward payment?

It's gone down to £3 per month, get on with it.
