I've bought a 2008 toyota yaris so could someone tell me how to use the air conditioning as I've never owned a car that's had air conditioning before.
This is like my heater switches.

You would need to press the A/C button in the middle, it looks like there is a light on the button which should come on to show it's activate. With the bottom dial set to the far left and the middle dial set to the bottom left, you should feel noticeably colder air coming through the vents with the air conditioning on.

    It's aircon not climate control.

So, the centre of the middle knob turns Aircon on and off.

The top knob controls how strong the fans are with the inner knob and re-circulation with the outer ring.

The outer ring of the middle knob changes where the air is directed, face, feet, screen, in various combinations.

The bottom knob outer ring changes the air temperature - if you want maximum cooling make sure the aircon button is on or it will only cool to the outside air temperature. The centre button is for the heated rear window.

It's a 9 year old car, so you might find the aircon needs gassing.

Turn recirculation off (top dial, outer ring - turn clockwise towards picture of air flowing into car).
Press Air Con button on and leave on. (centre of middle dial)
Adjust top middle and bottom dials for fan speed, direction and temperature.
As suggested above, if you turn temp to cold and it isn't, get someome to check the aircon system over - may have run out of gas.

It's just a normal heater setup, like any other non-climate-control car. Use blue-red to adjust the amount of warmed air.

To turn aircon on, press the button. You can have warmed, dried/conditioned air - which clears misted windows like nothing else - or you can have have unwarmed, cool, dry air in the summer.

But the one thing you MUST do is use it REGULARLY, if not just leave it on permanently. It won't affect economy much, and it will stop the seals in the compressor drying, and allowing the refrigerant to escape. If that happens, you'll find it hard to ever keep the gas in again without a compressor rebuild.

Given the car's a decade old, that may already have happened.
