Named driver claims on other cars

Hi All,

I have my partner on as a named driver on my car. Last year she made a claim on her own car and insurance policy. She was at fault, it was a minor rear-end bump. This was on her policy and her car.

I didn't think about this affecting my own policy or premium. When I've come to renew recently my premium has gone up with the claim information added to my additional named driver info.

My question is. When should you inform your insurer about any claims a named driver has made on their own car and policy if/when they have one? I haven't told mine until renewal. I didn't think about telling them beforehand as I thought the claim was nothing to do with my policy or car. If you don't tell them things like this does it give them grounds to cancel my insurance or not support claims I may make? I have 2 weeks left of this policy so I'm unsure if I'm insured or not at the moment...

Thanks

Advise at renewal when the declaration information has changed. Although insurances can be renewed, they are actually just annual policies. Therefore it is just as important to have correct information at renewal, than it was when the policy was first taken out.

If you read the policy terms, you will find some things are notifyable mid term of a policy e.g. Accidents/incidents you have been involved with or involving the insured vehicle, driving penalties/convictions, criminal convictions. But not an accident involving someone else on another policy, relating to a different insured vehicle, just because your name appears as another driver.

I've just found the policy wording on the Hastings site. I can't post a link as I'm a new user. If you google "Hastings Car insurance policy booklets" and choose "Hastings Premier 29 July 2015 to Current" booklet at the top of the page. It's described on Page 7 - Keeping you policy up to date:

Having read this can we assume that "Please tell us immediately if: You or any insured drivers are involved in an accident, no matter how trivial and regardless of blame" Is for accidents on my car and policy?

    Cheers

Yes they mean on your policy, covering your car.

It is so they can defend any third party claim received if necessary. If they don't have the accident info or it is notified late, it can make it very difficult.
