Basically they just want to flog their cookbook, it is annoying when that happens. If your broke anyway you are hardly going to want to splash out on a cook book to 'save' you cash :):)

After reading comments on how this was an inferior version of BBC Eat Well For Less I decided to check it out for myself. Whilst it bears strong resemblances in many ways it is better.

Swapping products for cheaper versions is not their sole advice. Instead of putting an embargo on what the family already have in store they are offering practical solutions to how these products can be used up. Having a chef involved has helped there. I did find some of the recipes on the Good to Know website so worth searching for that.

I never thought i'd say this, but I really like this programme. It's imo a lot better than Eat Well For Less.Matt is lovely, very down to earth, and really shows the families what they can make, from food they would previously have thrown away.Had to laugh at the yoghurt mountain this week though  :rotfl:

One point I disagreed with. They were told to buy loose veg rather than packaged as it is cheaper. This for some reason doesn't apply to carrots in the supermarket they are cheaper prepacked per kg.

Shouldn't the advice have been to compare the price per kilo of pre-packed and loose veg and to buy the cheapest?
Sometimes pre-packed is on offer and works out cheaper than loose.

Of course, the really sensible thing to do is to consider what you're going to do with the veg and decide - even if pre-packed is cheaper - if you'll actually use it all up.

No point in buying a 2.5 kilo pack of jacket potatoes for £2.00 (80p per kilo) when you'll only eat one when it would be cheaper to buy a single loose jacket potato at £1.00 per kilo.

Or do I just have too much time on my hands when I go shopping?

Tesco have the price per kilo on both loose and pre-packed veg & fruit so you don't need to work it out.
