Dealing with a bad tradesman

Thanks for pointing that out, I have just placed the sanitary ware as place holders.
But I completely agree with you, there isn't a lot of room to play with. That is hideous
How do you expect to seal the outside of th enclosure when it's touching the wall
Good luck getting that passed by building control0 -
Thanks Furts.
I agree with you - I am not competent enough but it's my mistake to blindly believe in the builder.
The sanitary ware shown in the picture are just placeholders, I just placed them there to see how they fit.
I am still open to the idea of dropping the idea of the building the ensuite altogether and convert it into a walk-in wardrobe.
I will present the list of issue you raised and get answers from the builder.
Are there anymore obvious issues you would like for me to raise?Doozergirl knows her stuff, and I have not followed your thread to date. A quick look at the photos and it is not good. However you appear to have glossed over the multitude of issues and just given links to the sanitary ware. Pure superficial stuff which lacks any thought or practtical, common sense input.
Come along, get real and wake up. Where do you stand with Buildings Regulations? What is the proposed floor detail under the shower? How do you intend to beef up the dangerous bulkhead - there is a real risk shower users will fall through to the floor below. Then where does the waste go? How is it routed? Where is the feeds? Where is the extract? How are you waterproofing and/or backer boarding? The list goes on - I will stop there.
You may indeed have a bodging contractor. But Doozergirl has hit a nail straight on the head. Consider your role in all of this - a competent contractor likes to work for a competent consumer.0 -

I am not getting between you and your builder. Whether he returns, or is interested in your comments is perhaps debatable. There is no point anyone giving you a list of defects when you do not understand the first principles. The builder only has to say " I do not understand" or "Please explain that" and you will be lost.
Sorry if that sounds harsh but it is reality. Basically, you should not be doing this work in this manner - there are plenty of bathroom type companies out there.
Your current position should be have you purchased all the items? Then consider what is owed to the builder. The work represents less than one days work to a skilled, quick trades person. Others may debate or question this so fair enough. However no way has £1500 of work been done and what has been done is questionable and needs input or correcting.
Over to you - how do you wish to move forward?0 -
I have the following response from the builder:
"The floor under the shower tray is a simple raised floor and will more than adequate for its use.
The bulkhead doesn't need beefing up, it is suitable and will only get stronger when the new wall is fixed to it.
The feeds and waste haven't been brought in yet I was going to do that the day you stopped me.
Why do you need water proofing or backer board??"Doozergirl knows her stuff, and I have not followed your thread to date. A quick look at the photos and it is not good. Which beautifully illustrates exactly what I was posting. You have gone back to the builder and the builder has come back questioning this. You cannot counter this so you are stumped. Meanwhile your situation is not resolved, and my two points in my last post have not been answered by you.
There is no more I can add. Sorry but I am out0 -

Who has purchaed the sanitaryware? I am looking at this from the perspective that he isn't returning and trying to find the value of the work.
Why does he say you stopped him?
Where is the Saniflo planned to live in that room?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I'm a big fan of the graph paper drawing which doesn't appear to show anything to scale?! (or at least no relation to the squares on the paper)
It's amazing - that after the questions that were previously asked, and the answers that followed - that we have have arrived at this stage!
I fear that the op won't listen to any advice on this matter and will just keep going and hope for the best... bizarre! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I purchased the Sanitary ware. According to him, he is returning today and going to have 2 workers on site to make up for the lost time.
That's right, I stopped him when I realised almost 2 weeks ago that his original layout was never going to leave enough legroom for sanitary ware that he was going to put. This is exactly when I told him that I am happy to drop the idea of going for the ensuite and build a walk-in wardrobe in that space instead.
And then he came up with a revised layout as shown on the graph paper and opted for high cistern toilet and space saving sink. Last week I ordered all the sanitary ware and put them in place to get a feel for the room.
Saniflo will sit right behind the toilet - between the toilet and the wall. I was told the waste of the sink will routed to the shower wasted which will in turn be routed to a 3-in-1 Saniflo.
Thanks again for your help so far, I will once again challenge him (like the way I did last time) and this time with the issues raised by you and Furts.Doozergirl wrote: »Who has purchaed the sanitaryware? Thank you.
The previous questions and Doozen's discouragement was about building an ensuite right next to the existing bath or modifying the existing bath to accommodate an ensuite - it was not about re-purposing wardrobes. In fact one of the users in the previous discussion suggested that but wasn't sure how the waste would run.
So, I posted the job in myhammer.co.uk, invited 2 builders onsite and ended up with the following builder who appeared to be very trustworthy and dependable.
