Using Credit Cards in the Pub?

Hello (My first posting)

Will the type of purchase I make on a Credit Card affect my Credit Score?

I recently got myself a Credit Card purely to improve my ability to get a loan.
I'm never overdrawn on my debit account, I have no debts.
I also like going to the pub.

Other than pulling money out of an ATM, I really should be making all my purchases on my Credit Card, right? Or is there something I am missing? I want to check before I make a mistake!

Thank you in advance

Sam

Use it for all your purchases. Except cash like transactions.
  • Thank you.

Would you mind clarifying what 'cash-like' transactions are?

I also wouldn't take cash out of an ATM with a credit card. If you do, the charges are added on from the day you withdraw the money till you have paid back the original amount and all the charges.

When abroad, certain credit cards are ok for taking cash out of ATM's as they don't add too many charges. When abroad, I only use debit cards in an ATM.

I would stick to buying goods and services with your credit card.

Using your credit card in a pub that you know is fine, but I'd be slightly wary of doing so in a strange pub, especially if it's at the end of the night after you've imbibed a few sherries, we quite often see threads where people have ended up with very large bills that they didn't notice at the time they authorised the transaction.

I don't see why using a credit card at the pub should affect your credit score unless they check into your purchase as at the end of the day you could be buying soft drinks or food. Also given that many credit card firms offer rewards/discounts for alcohol related purchases I don't that they see necessarily see alcohol as a bad thing.

Gambling I would say is the main thing to avoid at all costs with a credit card as its not something that credit card companies like to see and its very easy to rack up gambling debts when using a credit card for gambling.
