When did you last use your bank branch?

Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland are to shrink hundreds of their branches into ‘micro branches’ – with as few as two staff and self-service machines rather than counters – after seeing a change in customer behaviour.

So when did you last use your main bank’s branch?

This is very subjective, I went in to pay some cash in last week, but before then I hadn't been in a branch for a year.

Same, visited within the last month but before that it was over a year ago as I only go when those stuck in the last century pay by cheque - Might have provided more useful information if the question was something like "on average how many times a year do you visit a bank branch?" (with zero one of the answer options).

I still have a local branch of Barclays less than a mile from home.

My visits have declined in line with the popularity of cheques.

I haven't needed to visit my branch now for over a year, therefore I would assume that businesses are the biggest losers as branches close.

I go to the bank:1. Just after Christmas, when my grandparents send me a cheque
    2. Just after my birthday, when my grandparents send me another cheque
    3. On the rare occasion I get travel expenses from work. You guessed it, as a cheque.

I seem to remember one or two 'online only' banks appeared 15+ years ago where you could send in cheques by post. If my high street bank had that service I don't think I'd ever visit.

Like the others the last time I went into a branch was to cash a cheque about 4 months ago. I also changed my address as the online method is so poor I can't do it.

I responded "within the last year", which is the last time I had to pay in a cheque, but I received a cheque for £1.09 in the post a couple of days ago so I now face a 14 mile round trip to pay it in.:mad::mad:

As a Guide leader, I regularly go to the branch, as we get most money in by cheque. Since Natwest closed a load of branches the other year there is always a massive queue at those that are left. Regularly have to wait 30mins plus, whatever time of day I go.

  • I have not visited my bank branch in over 14 years. I do all my banking at the Post Office, where I can do all of my banking for free, cash withdrawals (even small amounts less than £5), cash deposits, cheque deposits and balances.
They can now offer these services for most banks, why not "cheque" them out, instead of a long journey.

If you use natwest it's well worth figuring out how the paying-in machine works (looks like an ordinary cash machine, but a bit bigger). Whenever I go there's always a massive queue for the counter but the machine is hardly ever in use.

With charity accounts you don't get a card, as 2 signatures are needed, and need to get paying in book stamped to prove it was banked.
The only machine they have that is of use to me is the coin machine, but then you still have to queue once the machine has counted your coins.
