Gear Linkage?

Options
Morning All,

Husband can't get 1st or reverse gears on a Vauxhall Combo 02 Van, could it just be something simple like a gear linkage issue (hope so)? Thank you all.

Most likely a worn cog on the actual gear if it doesnt slip in

    On which? First, or reverse?

    More likely the clutch.

    Linkage, then, probably.

Where's R on that box, relative to 1st? All the other gears are OK?

Hiya, Reverse to the left of 1st. I know 3rd is ok, not sure about 5th though. Husband not about at the moment though.

Linkage cables probably need adjusting, on most VX cars and vans you have to lock the gearbox using a pin, lift the gear stick gator and adjust the cable clamps at the base of the gear stick.

The other possibility is some damage/wear to the reverse gear mechanism in the same area.

If there is whining/grinding/rumbling noise present when moving, then the gearbox itself is probably shafted.

    Thank you all very much.

It was the gear linkage. Getting fixed today, could have well done without the expense but hay ho.
