Expensive bike with problems

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can offer any advice. My partner bought a bike for £2000 about 2 years ago. It was shop bought and partly funded through the ride to work scheme.
Due to various circumstances, he only rode it about 3 times when he got it and it has been stored securely and in a padded case since. He has recently been able to get it out again and when putting it back together something small broke. He took it to a local bike shop (we are now not local to the shop he bought it in) and they have found multiple elements that need replacing and they have stated that they aren't sufficient quality for the cost of the bike and the general manufacture seems a bit shoddy. Given that it was bought 2 years ago, is there anything that can be done given that the quality is not what was paid for?
Many thanks

What "elements" needed replacement?0

What make and model is it?
Even if it was overpriced for the components used, the only time to do anything about that would be to decide not to buy it in the first place. I suspect however that the bike shop may be trying to flog some unneeded upgrades.
It never ceases to amaze me that people will spend this much on a bike, then seldom use it, or bother to learn a few fairly simple skills to maintain and fix the thing themselves.0
