Default on credit file - can it be reapplied?

Hello there and thank you for reading.

I have searched for an answer to this on the forums but drew a blank, hence my question, which I shall try to make brief.

Had a default for 650 pounds on my credit file dating to 2010. It related to a debt I had completely forgotten about and had not heard from any collection agencies in years. 3 weeks ago I received a letter about it offering me a very low settlement - I responded by email stating this settlement was agreeable to me and that I would be happy to pay the suggested amount within a month.

However, due to the date the default appeared on my credit file it should have already expired. I contacted Equifax regards this, they agreed and removed the default as it should have happened automatically.

My question - I am happy to still pay the agreed sum to the collection agency (I should have paid the debt in full but overlooked it), but if I do pay can they then mark the payment as partially settled even though it is from 2010 and has been removed from my files? I suppose I am asking if there is any way a default or notification of the default can be relisted on my credit file.

Thank you in advance for any informed advice.

Nope, the account is gone, and it's not coming back. If ti does - report it once again and it will be removed. Make sure to check with all 3 CRAs.

No. After 6 years, the whole account disappears.

If it is statute barred then it cannot return.

If it is not then they could get a CCJ. and that will be on your file for 6 years unlesss you pay in 28 days.

If it is statute barred then you have no reason to pay also.

The default however cannot come back but I'mn sure you care about the above too!

Thanks Carrot007. I intend to pay the offer amount as agreed this month - that way all will be settled either way.
