Advise of what i can claim

Hi all.

I am currently a carer for my mother and my brother who has mental health issues. I get paid for being a carer for my mother but not my brother. I also have my 26 year old son living with me after returning from University with depression he is currently on Universal credit.
I get the £62.50 a week carers allowance. Income support, Discount on council tax, Discount on water rates. I live rent free in my parents old house after the death of my father several years ago. My mother lives in a sheltered housing complex.
I was just wondering if i am entitled to any more financial or physical assistance in caring for both my brother and mother.

    Have a read of this:

    http://www.carersuk.org/help-and-advice/practical-support/getting-care-and-support/carers-assessment

You can ask your local council for a Carer's Assessment for both you and your mum and brother.

From what you have said there does not seem to be any other benefits that you can claim as you can only claim Carer's allowance for one person.

If your mum/brother are entitled to some help for their care needs then you might be able to start a part time job - you can do up to 16 hrs earning no more than £110 (I think that's the figure) each week without loosing your Care's Allowance (although you would lose your income support).

You seem to have a lot on your plate so I would certainly start the ball rolling by asking for assessments for you, your mum and your brother. It is worth also considering whether your mum might be losing out by not being entitled to a severe disability premium ( if she receives a means tested benefit) by your claiming Carer's Allowance.

So, get that assessment, see what help they can offer and then go to CAB for some help as regards claiming benefits for you and your family.

I have done precisely that. To the OP all I can say is ignore that type of response. They are thankfully a very small minority.

Stop feeding the troll. Click report. If you insult them back, you are subject to the same punishment (i.e. deleted posts and potential ban). Since you've responded to every one of their posts, you make it look like you've created an account just to have an argument with them and arguing with people gets you banned.

I've reported them too, first time I've ever had to do this in all the years I've been a member of MSE.

I suspect someone using a hacked account, given the user has not posted for few years.

Totally agree Tellit01 (and I've also reported that post).

It did cross my mind (having glanced at some of the previous threads of coraline - albeit some years ago) whether she was having a re-occurrence of mental health difficulties.

If that's the case (and there have been some very perplexing posts) I would advice her to contact her GP first thing in the morning for an urgent appointment or her CPN if she is already in the mental health system.

I see the troll posts have disappeared from this thread. Reporting clearly does work - thank you Mods.
