Would anyone have any suggestions as to how to remove an build up of algae from our external garden wall prior to painting?
As a bonus question if someone could recommend a way that would reduce the possible dangers to our dogs that use the back yard.
Thanks in advance

We used 'Patio Magic' on our external wall (low level bricks below the DPC were a bit green, especially on the shady side of the house and where the boiler vents and splashes back a bit). Works on green fences too :-) Don't get in on plants though or they'll die too! Comes in a blue container from any DIY shed or Wilkos and you water it down 1 part to 4 parts water and spray it on.....next day the green algae's gone.0

My mother would recommend Star Drops and a scrubbing brush. But then, that's her answer to pretty much everything. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

If any of your neighbours have cats, be extra careful with the sprayed area - even after the area is dry, cats can be poisoned by Benzalkonium chloride.

"Many detergents, especially but not only those containing benzalkonium chloride, are highly dangerous to cats. This is because once they get on the cat’s coat, the cat is desperate to lick them off.
Once ingested they cause severe burns and swelling to the mouth, throat, gullet, windpipe and intestinal tract. This can result in suffocation as the airways swell shut, or death from blood poisoning as damaged intestines rupture."
