Council Tax refund - Montgomery Chamberlain ?

Hi
I have received out of the blue a letter from a company called Montgomery Chamberlain Associates (co # 09766791) informing that I am due a council tax refund of £810 before charges in respect of a property I sold 9 years ago.
The company is based in Northallerton. Incorporated in 2015 with no accounts filed yet. One director.
The letter has not asked for any cash - just a signed instruction letter for them to contact Liverpool Council and work on a no win no fee basis. Advises cash to be paid direct to me by the council.
All sounds a little too good to be true.
Has anyone else had any experience of using Montgomery Chamberlain or come across them elsewhere ?
Also wouldn't any refund be statute barred given > 6 years since paid ?
If not how easy is it to pursue or verify the position directly with the Council. ?
All help much appreciated
Thanks

Ring council give them your previous address and dates of occupation, they'll tell you if any refund is due.
Warning - the phone call may cost you a pound or twoIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Just Google them....0

CT refunds are not statute barred although some councils will try to argue otherwiseIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

The companies are 'legit' but it's nothing you can't do yourself for free.
Also, bandings can go up as well as down. So it could end up costing you money, not getting a refund.0 -
It was only a link about Council Tax Rebate scams and for the OP to do their homework before signing up to any company claiming to get rebates.0

This is like companies offering to helpyou reclaim PPI for misselling.
If you were sold PPI and want to claim a refund for misselling, why would you pay someone to contact the bank for you.....?
Same principal.0
