Problems with Mondeo central locking and how (I hope) I fixed it.

Hi all,

For the last 10 days, I have had a problem with my 2005 Mondeo's central locking. Whenever I used the key fob to unlock all doors, the driver door would not open so I would access the car via another door. I then started to get worse, when the passenger door would not open either.

I did a google search yesterday and found someone who suggested the following :

1. Use the Key fob to open all doors and hold down continuously for over 30 seconds (for my car, it opened all of the electronic windows).

2. Then use the key fob to close all doors and hold down continuously for over 30 seconds.

3. Use the Key fob to open all doors and hold down continuously for over 30 seconds.

Touch wood, the key fob is now working okay and I have tested it loads of times.

I can't find the post on google but I thought that I would post to help anyone with similar probs.

Worth trying for other makes of car as I don't think the post was specific for a mondeo..

Well I haven't experienced this, but it doesn't surprise me.

The issue I have is the windows will sometimes randomly go down instead of up, so you have to fully open the window before it'll close again. It's either a firmware bug, or it's the crappy way the switches are made, basically sliding contacts on an exposed PCB, instead of an enclosed switch. I used to work for the company that made those switch packs (to Fords own spec), so I don't know why the hell I went back on my personal promise to never buy a Ford.
