Double glazing dispute

Options
Hi there

this might be quite long I'll try to summarise and keep it as short as possible.

In 2009 I purchased new double glazing and roof trim from a company which will be remain unnamed for now. They have a 10 year guarantee. I was advised by the salesman at the time to have trickle vents installed as my previous windows did not have them.

from the start I was never happy with the installation and windows were fitted badly and not fitted squarely. I was told that they could take them out but could damage the window which they wouldn't be responsible for (since learnt that the guarantee wouldve covered defective workmanship)

ive always had niggling issues with the windows, they have been noisy and always felt like they were draughty and cold. Having the company come out numerous times since 2009 to look into the issue.

Around 2013-2014, I noticed that the trickle vents were never tightened correctly or sealed on the inside, so this was allowing heat and noise leakage to occur. I figured this out not the company coming out looking at the issue. They came out and sealed the vents as I had asked

Still didn't feel like the issue was solved, by this time I'd had enough and gave up. In December 2016, I started to look again at why it felt draughty and noisy again, I found that I could purchase a thermal camera for home improvements, I took images showing heat differences, which the company refuted. I paid for a company to survey the house which shows heat leakage from the vents. This report has been ignored.

at the time of purchase I was never told that the vents would leak heat or let noise in.

i have B rated energy performing windows fitted or so I thought, I asked the company what the rating is with and without trickle vents, they have no performance rating for windows with trickle vents. So it seems to me I can no longer say I have b rated windows. Also the vents have not been fitted to the manufacturers recommendation, I found this out during my research.

i feel like I've been missold these windows from the start and wondering what i can do? I've been in discussions with them for 4 months raising this point but making no head way at all.

id appreciate any help or advice anyone could give, hopefully I've captured all the relevant points. I've missed out that I now have an issue with the rooftrim/guttering, the downpipe from the guttering was not fitted correctly since2009 and has caused the collapse of my patio on the corner of my house , due to defective workmanship I'm concerned about the footings and foundation of my house on that corner

Thanks - Dean

    That's what ventilation means.
  • Hi hollydays

True, but this is when they are closed. When advised to have them I wasn't advised of this. Also the fact that I have a product with a b rating yet the company now admit that with vents they've no idea if that's correct or not because they've never tested it.

As I understand it a 10 year guarantee relates to the so -called lifespan of the windows . As you are nearing the end of that time, could this not be relevant?
  • My initial contact with the company was pretty much from the outset with issues,

Unless you live in Scotland then the only thing that the company has to abide by now are the terms of their guarantee. The ship sailed long ago on holding them liable under the Sale of Goods Act.
