Positive Balance on Halifax One card

Hi I'm new here...after a little bit of help!

I have had a successful application for the one credit card but didn't quite get the limit i needed to make a purchase! Is there anyway of putting the extra cash on the card to enable me to make the purchase?

    I wouldn't if I was you.

    Firstly, the T&C's prohibit it...
7.6 You must not make payments or transfer funds from another credit or store card to your account that would leave a credit balance on your account. We may return any funds that exceed the balance owing on your account to the account from which the money has been sent.
Secondly, one poster recently found their account had been suspended following such a transaction...and they were in the USA at the time!

Why not ask for a limit increase?
  • Ok well i will wait for the bits to come through and then give them a ring. The only problem is that I am a student so they may not want to increase the limit!

Otherwise if i don't go through with sending through signatures etc then will this have any effect on my credit limit?

Why not ask for a limit increase?

Halifax need at least 6 months payment history on the account before any limit increase will be considered.

For OP, if you really need a higher limit, spend a good portion of the limit you have and pay it back in full each month. This shows that you are able to manage the money and will increase your chances of having a limit increase.

Depending on what you're buying and where... why not ask the retailer if you can pay so much on card, and the rest cash? It was a good few years ago, but I did that with PCWorld in the past...

On credit cards the maximum amount permitted for any single transaction is the credit limit... hence if you are putting credit into the card in order to make a transaction greater than the credit limit then this is unlikely to be possible, unless the retailer breaks it down into two part transactions (each being lower than the value of the cr lim)
  • Why not call Halifax and ask nicely for a limit increase (they can only say no after) and if they refuse you split the transaction paying part on your card and part in cash - most stores will let you do this although its always worth checking first.

    Good luck with it.
