what grain free food do you feed your jack russell?

he's very reluctant with a total dry feed, so he has mix of pate-type food and small bite mixer. Vet says he's in really good shape, teeth excellant (he has a dentastix daily, never brush them..)weight is fine.
He poohs for england! was told it may be grain- related.Any advice?
Is it healthy to just have the meat trays but no biscuits?
thanks in advance

I dont have a jack russell but a similar kind of small terrier, I had the same problem and switched to 'Millies Wolfheart' she has the lowest calorie one I think its the tracker mix? Anyway she does great on it and poos are smaller and solid finally!

Not just grain, but any poorly digested food will result in bulky poos. Grains, vegetables any other 'fillers' really.

Don't have a JRT but I raw-feed my two (Rottie x and GSD) and poos are small and firm. Equivelant size to a small kibble-fed Cockerpoo cross, despite being much larger breeds.

Grain-free foods do reduce the amount of poo (my dog still goes 2 or 3 times a day but its only a small amount and they're much firmer and therefore easier to pick up!). As krlyr suggests, raw food is even better again in terms of the output!

Millies Wolfheart is well recommended by lots of people, I use the slightly cheaper Country Kibble grain free for mine.

I have 2 JRT's, they have a mixture of burns toy & small breed complete kibble and chudleys junior complete. (70% burns/30% chudleys)
We put the chudleys in after recommendation from a fellow jrt owner as the burns on its own didn't seem to fill dogs up when they were puppies and had to double up on the amount.
The poo's are small and firm, I also mix either pilchards or mince in a couple of times a week.
We have 2 very happy and content dogs.
The burns is hypo-allergenic while the chudleys is gluten free.
