Balance transfer check?

Do any CC companies offering balance transfer cards use credit checking to find out whether you actually have a balance on another card to transfer (as opposed to using eg MBNA card with zero balance as a mule card)?

However if you don't have a balance to transfer to the card will be in credit and there will be a strong possibility that the monies will be returned - a waste of a transfer fee.

I've checked that - twice, via secure messaging - with the intended mule card and they've confirmed that they'll pay out the credit balance thus created to a current account.:)

The proof is in the pudding - it won't be the telesales people that will decide if you proceed.

Point taken, though they seemed pretty clear about it "We can confirm that if you put your card into credit we would not bounce the payment back. We would give you the option of where you wished us to send the credit balance to. We would be able to refund the money to a FlexAccount."
